Hi all - I'm a writer who has an assignment for a magazine article on what it takes to find the right mate. Part of the assignment involves creating a compatibility check list -- from Perfect mate to I hate Cupid.
What strategies should you employ? What works and doesn't?
How to avoid tricks, traps, scams and stalkers?
The article's tone, as you probably have already gathered, is to be semi-serious with a humorous slant.
I'd welcome any suggestions.

How to find the perfect mate

First get out and mingle with people. Join some groups. Go to church

some where along the way you'll encounter someone of the opposite sex and hit it off

you'll go an dates and get closer and then you'll decide to get married

and then on your wedding day you'll meet your bride/husband's sister or cousin or uncle.

and THAT will be your perfect mate and it'll be too late

The easiest way to find a mate is to use my old stand by pick up line;
"Quit strugglin' and get in the car"

The two biggest things for me are:
Don't ignore red flags. They flare up for a reason.

Talk about big issues, but in a lighthearted way. What if you try to keep it all light and casual, then after two months you find out they are an NRI suport and have 37 guns, and you are a strict pacifist, very anti gun but it just never came up?

Know your dealbreakers and find out a way to get those questions answered. Don't look for things to be wrong, and don't be a "never" person.

Cash

I agree..sadly it's dominant factor still and will be. If you got cash you'll find everything you want and need.

That's WRONG. I had a date with a guy who talked mostly about what he bought with his money and I was totally turned off. I don't want to know what you can buy or what you did buy. I hate shopping. There do exist material girls, but it's not universal.

how many millionaires do you see that lack confidence or power... I would argue woman are more attracted to confidence and power than money... the money is a side benefit... :P

Things I think you should do...

It's a numbers game, I'm trying to meet everyone in the world first, and then asking the most compatable person out for dinner.

Never be too quick to judge another person, you're supposed to wait until after you're married to point out their faults.

Don't be afraid to get your heart broken, it has to be put back together first, which means for a little while you'll be happy.

Things not to try...

Well, don't be RoamingOrator for starters, women are looking for something else.

Don't talk, whatever you think you want to say, is the complete wrong thing, and it will come out in the most horrible fashion possible.

Don't introduce anyone to your family until you've been married for at least ten years.

Hope this helps
