It would be a toss-up between the steam engine and the microchip.

The microchip just being a smaller version of the transistor and the transistor just being a smaller version of the vacuum tube.

Gad's why be so complicated.


The basis of our modern society is actually the wheel. Yep, hands down humanity's greatest idea.

It's used to power the world through the turbines that generate our electricity. We use it every time we travel, the very concept of both the internal combustian engine and the jet turbine require the wheel.

Think of what wouldn't exist without the wheel, and we'd be still in caves.

Actually you could make an IC engine without a wheel but then you'd only go back and forth.
