It's strange to attend group therapy sessions and to be told by counselors that it's up to us to educate people about mental illness cuz' if somebody's mind is all ready made up in how they look at it they sure as hell aren't gonna' listen to me. When people consistently say "oh yeah...I get it...I understand..." and then turn around and throw it in yr face later...well, you can't help but know the score. Doesn't matter how "smart" they claim to be...or how educated they are...if they want to use it against you then they will. End of story. And to the person who struggles with a mental illness all their life...to have somebody claim they're accepting only to use it against you later is devastating....

It's been my experience that even if somebody says they understand or that they're cool with it they will always store that knowledge in their mental Rolodex only to use it against you if they get angry. Happens to me all the time. Like, "Yr opinion doesn't count cuz' yr crazy..." or something of that nature. I've suffered major depression and OCD all my life...and evil people in the past have always used this knowledge against me.
Its because YOU allow that to do THAT to you..
Be careful the ammunitions you freely share with others,
then THEY wouldn't have that to TRY and hurt you through.

And your truth to YOU whats inside your heart is all of ANY truth you ever will NEED...of YOU!!!! just a thought man??

All humans are mentally ill....quite mad actually..

some just have a label attached to theirs.

Knowing that we are all quite mad, it is a no brainer that I am tolerant of it.

surprised

yep, yep! All to often it is used as an excuse for bad behavior...

True...to a point. I won't live a lie. I'm not ashamed...I'm ashamed of how other people use it against me. I guess the up-side is you eventually see their true colors and you can move on. It's next to impossible to hide my condition anyway....

I accept all people, I just use judgment(their behavior and tendencies) to determine whether to be too 'close' to them.

I am with you on that one.

Those who are mentally ill need our help and compassion, but every now and then you will find someone who tries to manipulate society by using their mental illness as an excuse, and they refuse to seek professional help, or they won't stay on their meds, etc. They use their condition as a license to hurt others, or for wrong doing, and then they play the 'illness' card if you try to hold them accountable for their actions. We've all seen it in the news. Sadly all to often sad2

This ... Yes, it is a seemingly necessary survival skill!

... ^^^ ... w/ Caveat:

As a healthian and Natural Medicines Practitioner?

I also believe that a level of mental illness that is viably interfering w/ achieving/sustaining a happy, healthy life, and/or hurting self and others, should be surrounded w/ as many lifestyle help/changes as possible.

WHICH ARE SOOOOOOO- MANY, as w/ all dis~eases. Do the homework! It demands a total change of lifestyle towards health management!

I see it as a valid group of dis~eases on the vast spectrum of many various bodily disorders, that ALL require focused attention towards a hopeful full resolution of 'total cure and recovery'.

Yes, I said it, CURE ... NOT stagnating in inertia! That is always my treatment goal w/ ALL dis~ease.

If total cure is not possible?

Then at least a vigilance of constancy and responsibility of said person, by seeking to raise the vital force of their entire organism, including their brain physiology and chemistry, of course!

Often, I see a complacency and apathy in mental illness that is just not present when other dis~eases are diagnosed on a more physical level.

Almost as if the diagnosis/medication is the quitting, endgame in severe mental illness, but is more a "game on, I'll fight this" in other physical maladies diagnosed.

... As if the regard is that the mind and its chemistry is a separate being, disassociated from the physicality of bodily being.

Yet, Mental illness is completely PHYSICAL!

This, then so often displays as a removing of any sense of determination and responsibility in their own process.

Mental illness, and its inherent chemical imbalances, would be the most responsive to an intensive nutritional deficiencies approach of vitamin therapy protocol, among MANY other healing tactics employed.

More than 20 years ago, the US FDA announced that 90% of major illness was as a result of nutritional deficiencies - and would ONLY be cured by nutrition!

Hellooooooooooo!!!

Yet, mental illness protocol is one of the few dis~ease treatment branches that routinely does not incorporate nutritional therapy!

I also take great issue w/ the intense lack of accountability often displayed by the mentally ill, as regards the abuse they subject their self, family, friends and community to - particularly those that actively abuse other substances.

They are the only dis~ease community that has an abuser 'Get out of Jail and Blame' card.

In so many cases, the thinking is that it is NEVER their fault, they are allowed to be out of control to a point of destroying others lives, in addition to their own.

Many of us are survivors of just such abuse by the mentally ill, in our childhood and as adults.

KUDOS to those mentally ill that take an active role in managing and treating their self, and maintain full accountability to any/all of their actions that have caused pain and dis~ease to self and others!

Much more to add, will leave it at this for now ...

as far as a relationship goes, it would depends on the illness and if they are taking control of it (meds, therapy, whatever)

But as far as a person, then no. I feel for those that are very sick. I think, to an extent, we all have something.

I agree. There needs to be some accountability.

Yet, Mental illness is completely PHYSICAL!
Take yr own advice...research it. To claim that mental illness is due to poor nutrition or whatever...to claim it's physical.... To tell somebody who suffers a mental illness that it is due to a lack of nutrition or whatever is completely insulting.

Take yr own advice...research it.

Well if that's not the pot calling the kettle black... LOL

Even vitamin B deficiency can lead to depression and can result as a paranoid hallucinatory state. In the amount of time it took for you to post your rant you could have actually googled it and learned something....

Dancere is 100% correct.

Some examples are Huntington’s chorea, Neurosyphilis, Encephalitis, Encephalitis lethargic, Cerebral abscess, Tuberculosis meningitis, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, Cerebrovascular accident, Cerebral tumors, Addison’s disease (hypoadrenalism), Hypopituitarism, The list goes on and on…. Next time instead of just ranting, please do some actual research before you post slaphead

Even liver disease can cause hallucinations and are sometimes known as hepatic encephalopathy.

I am reluctant to take advice from a Dr. Google. Sorry. Sorry...can't do that. The conventional treatment I'm undergoing is working just fine.

It takes an open-mind for anyone to take advice from any doctor. It would also take a gentleman to apologize to Dancere for dissing her post, when you were the one who clearly was wrong. Here, this might help:

I have found that the really only effective practioner is one who has had first hand experience in the diagnosis of any illness. Empathy, years of knowledge, experementing...no one knows exactly what will work for many. Say...you and I have the same exact diagnosis, but you respond and I do not. To try and put anything into a nutshell 'cure' is kinda presumptious.
How come 'a' responded to cancer treatment and 'b' did not? they were treated the same way. Both took serious regiments of vitamins, nutrional changes, same medication. It's simply way to complicated to state "if only you do it this way..."
Sure, vitamins help, diet helps, we all know that but to think that will solve the problem....Then all would be extremely healthy...and no mental illness, no cancer, no colds nor flu.

Well, I decided I would look it up.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4610070.stm

--This article dating the 16th of January, 2006; states that diet MAY have more to do with mental illness and changing a diet in SOME cases shows better results than medication. I've taken the liberty to 'highlight' so-to-speak the key terms used through that article.

Now; let's look at a different article from another perspective, shall we?

http://www.naturalnews.com/006587.html

First; let's note the headline, "Depression and mental disorders can be prevented and treated with simple healing foods." Okay, now that this is out of the way, let's move onto what the article says. Not quite verbatim, it is in fact exactly the same thing the article above it states...that new scientific studies were finding that in SOME cases changing a person's diet MAY help in mental illness. Only this one is tricky, anyone know why? Here; I'll tell you why, because of the headline, in the headline we see the words CAN and PREVENTED...now unfortunately, being human, we only really see what we want more often than not and because of that we neglect true information.

So...what does this all mean? Well, obviously, naturalnews.com is a dietitian site, in that it is primarily visited by people looking for diet advice and professionals that work within giving healthy diet recommendations. And the site above it is BBC news, see where this is going? Now I'm not saying that a healthy diet can't cure mental disease, but I'm not agreeing with it either, I'm just simply stating how if certain terms are used in a headline, it is quoted for truth when it is simply stating a theory.

If one thing works, continue to do it, if at any point in time you find it not working...change it. Everyone with a mental health condition should follow that, I do, I'm sure Dict8 here does as well. If pills are working for us, then stick to what works, right? If a healthy diet is working, stick to the diet, correct? Quit bickering children.
