So, I think I'm safe in assuming that everyone checks out to see if there's a ring on the left hand, but if you see one do you automatically assume the person is married, even if its not a standard band or wedding ring?

A friends buddy thought my ring was interesting but asked if I was married. The ring is a simple silver ring with Celtic knotwork around a star. I never assumed it gave the impression I'm married, but would it?

The simple answer is, yes, if there is a ring on that finger on the left hand, I assume that she's married.

I have at least 2 rings on both hands, left ring finger is sterling and turquoise. I've been told it could be assumed a wedding ring...

and I'm not married.

I would most assume that person was married until I was told otherwise.

Doesn't matter. I have no morals. A ring doesn't plug a hole ya know.laugh laugh

It's probably always better to ask than assume anything.

Women who are not married wear sizable cocktail rings on the left hand quite often now. I do as well. Sometimes it's meant as a "man blocker" but sometimes I just like having it on that hand because it fits better.

When in doubt ask - otherwise a person may never know for sure. winking

Depends on the ring, if it isn't a giant rock of a diamond I'll usually ask about it...if it is a giant rock of a diamond, I'll stay away with what I think is a safe assumption.

Out and about, I would assume yes, that person is married. But in a bar or something? No I wouldn't assume. Gives you an easy way of starting a conversation

But this is with a woman right? Cause if a man is wearing any kind of ring on that finger I assume he's married. Especially in a bar.

A lot of my guy friends who WERE married keep their rings on, even after starting to date again. Most feel naked without it. A couple of them are widowed and continue to wear the ring as a tribute to their wife's memory.

So it could apply each way, but yes, more so to women.

Look, I am just speaking truth. Most dudes do not care about a chick being married. In fact, in some ways, it is a "challenge" to the dude to see if he can gain any interest from the married woman. Hey, guys (in general) love the thrill of the hunt. And in some circles of dudeness, a married woman is like the top prize. I know that sounds horrible, but it is the truth.

I guess I'm not most guys, then, as I wouldn't do this ever. Having been married to a woman who cheated on me, I would never inflict that kind of pain on someone else...mad

I wear an antique diamond/silver ring, (which was a gift from me to me), on the middle finger of left hand...reserving the ring finger on left hand for an engagement & wedding ring.

I've been through a similar experience, and completely agree with you on this point.

This is probably one reason why "most dudes" are still single. Just sayin

Regardless if it is a man or women I would assume they are married...........But.........never assume it means they are faithful...........noway

To me that just means I keep my distance and keep the conversation strictly on the friendly level.....bigsmile

God I love playing Devil's Advocate. laugh laugh

Personally, I wouldn't hit on a chick with a ring on that finger. But what I am talking about is that the nature of most men is that it doesn't matter if she does or doesn't have a ring. Or, if you will, some guys will start talking to a chick and then before you know it, they are in a moral conflict. Should they continue to pursue this married woman, with her accepting the advances and wanting him to pursue her? Or should he not? Once you have gone too far, it is hard to stop.

Goof, you wouldn't even do that crap. But it is true about some guys. Haven't you noticed that when your attached you get hit on more often? There is something just about the challenge.

I just don't go near anyone with a ring on their left hand...better to be safe than sorry.
