I guess it depends if you pronounce 'courtesy' correctly.

Don't know why no one shows common coutesy, but I have a feeling it is because some past generation ****ed it up. I blame the baby boomers.
More like the hippies in the 60s.

I hate to admit to this but did anyone elses mom sit them down and actually teach them manners as kids?

My mom taught me how to write a thank you note, how to have table manners, how to treat adults and people such as police with respect, etc.

Do moms and dads do these things today?

(BTW, I am not a mama's boy...laugh )

I work with people everday at a retail store. We have to much pleasure in life and don't understand how quick the pleasure of our lives can be taken away. I have to admit people do have respect but very few and then they walk right in front of you and don't even say excuse me. The respect has went down the drain and how come the people who do have respect don't use it out in the public in to much of a hurry to get to work or drop you kids off at school? To much on you plate to use it? People have respect, they this have a lot on their plates and forgot how to use it.

Lets start a whole week and open the door's for people, ask how you doing.

It's just not people neither, look at the media, and company's how they treat employees. If big company's don't treat people with respect, it affections the way us little people treat other people.

Car, Dead, House getting caught on fire.

I was taught to respect others the way to be treated by school teachers, not my parents. We not going in to details about parents LMAO.

I grew up in the 80's, and parents were all about raising their kids up with respect, manners, etc. Hell, I lived in a neighborhood where if you got in trouble, the other kids parents would stand by the side of the road, paddle in hand, whooping your a$$ all the way home.laugh

Face it. We live in a generation where parents want to be their kids' friend. And the parents don't want to exert themselves with disciplining their kids. Parents want teachers to raise their kids for them. Or, they would just rather give their kids any and every toy on the planet in the hopes it will keep them happy. Not all parents are like this. But ALOT are! And this, to me, is where manners are lacking. The kids do not learn manners, so they will never use them.

Not sure. I still do it. It may have to do with how they are brought up and who they hang out with.

It's a city problem if you ask me. Difusion of responsibility I believe it's called in psychology. It goes along with the tunnel vision folks have when they're walking down a street. They don't look at the people they pass, as if they aren't there.

I also blame McDonalds and ATMs. The fast food/gotta have it now society breeds an attitude of self importance. "Forget talking to someone, my times too important to be bothered with that." It might as well be a battle cry. The speed of our culture doesn't allow for courtesy anymore. Most people don't even hang up their phones when they talk to someone who is trying to be of service. If you think it's bad now, wait another twenty years.

Because kids these days are influenced by so much more than their parents. I'm sure parents are still trying to instill these behaviors into their children but it's not enough when they spend most of their time with their punk*** little friends and playing video games/ internet.

Funny, I was thinking most adults are as rude as some kids. I think the influence starts with the parents and the kids don’t have proper examples (at home).

Lack of manners, courtesy, and etiquette is an epidemic of all ages. sad2

I agree. Some adults are even worse!

I don't agree about it being a city problem. I don't live in a city and I see rude people a lot around here. I went to NYC (where everyone say everyone is rude) and people were super friendly.

I heard hippies gave acid to their babies.

slaphead

I know quite a few 'hippies' and none ever gave their babies acid.

The real problem is no one is raising the children, they are raising themselves. No one HAS time, and when they get home from working all day, have to deal with the children, laundry, making dinner, makye getting the kids to do some home work or chorse and the kids aren't responding because there is no love, at least as much as there used o be. sounds hippyish but it's the truith. In This stressed filled orld, everyone is tried a little angry and then boom, the car breaks and $ people don't have has to be found. Saw this coming dexcades ago. The kds deal with computers, tv, movies and music (non-life) as their teachers, companions, child sitters and sometimes parents.
