does telling lies ever benefit anybody?i guess what i mean is ,even if you don,t get caught in the lie,are you glad that you lied later.doesn,t every lie come back to haunt you,one way or another.it seems to me that there is a lot more talk about dishonesty on this internet site than in real life.does anyone else notice this.if so,do you think maybe its because people are more likely to admit their dishonesty on here or that maybe its got something to do with the group of people who frequent these sites?

I may not like the truth, but I can deal with it and work with it. Can't work with a lie.

I can respect the truth whether I like it or not.

IMO it takes more courage to tell the truth

usually people lie because they are either afraid of loosing what they have or not getting what they want....the more you fear, the more the tendency to lie....

I wonder about the same, although in relationships and in simple life, lying is one thing, you might screw up one person or 2 but I worry about the liars in Washington DC, which effects millions of people.

I don't know how they sleep at night, after ruining the lives of millions.

liars are creeps and whimps, i used to think nothing of lil lies until I met a compulsive liar who lied about totally insignificant things, and I wonder if he had controls issues, or maybe he felt like life was out of control and the only thing he had control over was what was coming out of his mouth. perhaps he thought he was fooling everyone and that made him feel powerful, but in the end we all saw right through him. And still do. He is brainwashed by his own lies.

"Everyone Lies" ......in some shape form or fashion

for example ... is your real name actually "bigojockey"?

or are you lying?

A screen name is not a 'lie' really, since it must be differentiated. It is understood as such since we all had the same registration process.
My actual name, for example was already taken so Ive used my initials.

and that's the thing...everyone has their own interpetation as to what a lie is and that is why people find it acceptable to tell lies..but the equation is simple

anything that is not the truth.... can therefore only be a lie

Yep. It is not unusual for a woman to claim to be looking for a "good man". Then, she will choose a "bad boy" over a "good man" because the "bad boy" can give her the lifestyle that she wants.

When you come to a site and are asked for a codename it is not considered a lie because how many todd's or Jeff's or Seans are in the world. It's called business practicality not lying. Movies are based on fantasy mostly, except for the non-fiction ones, They are built on false pre-tenses yes,but a lie is when you say something intentionally to mislead someone at the risk of exposing your own shortcoming or downfall.

so I guess that's a big-o-no to the question is your name bigojockey, also if a site trys to induce one to lie in the "shape form or fashion" of a code name doesn't mean one has to...so why blame the site if one choose to lie ...simply don't join it

I'm not understanding why there would be a need to be dishonest....if we feel we must lie to others to make them like us, or accept us, then why bother.
Dishonesty destroys relationships, why on earth would anyone want that in their relationships...mystery to me.

Actually, if you read his profile, the name isn't a lie. He trains Thoroughbreds, jockeys ride Thoroughbreds. His profile says he is 5'11, so technically he is pretty big for a jockey, even being slender. Jockeys usually run 5'4-5'6 or so and are pretty small weight-wise. The lighter they are, the less weight the horse has to carry, even by the time they are weighted to even the balance up.

Is it a lie if the other person doesn't know anything about it? Or is it just an unknown?

I go by EquusDancer which means HorseDancer. I play and dance and goof around with my horses. Even when trail riding, we play and dance. My older horse Chance, does goofy stuff with me, that he wouldn't do with other riders, but we've known each other for 16 years. It would be more pertinent yet if I was involved with dressage, but I'm not. However, I'm not lying with my nickname. But again, if you, or someone else doesn't know horses, how is that a lie?

if "bigojockey" or "EquusDancer" are not legally stated on either of your birth certificates as the birth name...then it's a lie....working with horses is just a way to justify why you lied

I'm confused? How is that a lie? I don't go by or expect to be called by my first middle and last name by every single person because its on my birth certificate. That's a whole lot pompous, to be honest. If going by a nickname or screenname is considered a lie then using your logic, anything less then first middle and last would be, even a nickname of ones actual name.

My screenname is a nickname. So are the other various nicknames I have. They each have a meaning and stand for something. I don't see how a description is a lie.

a name is not a screen name...they are two separate things.

It would be a lie to agree with you.

to not agree with me is to lie to yourself ...a screen name is a fake name it's being dishonest ...it's simply not your real name it's a lie....why does the rules about what a lie is change when one log onto The Internet
