1 John 4:7-8 says "Beloved, let us love one another for love is from God
and everyone that loves is born of God and knows God.

The one who does not love does not know God for God is love."

Which is ONE of the reasons, that I tell everyone I love them, EVERYDAY..

the other being, love feels good.

I love everyone, unless they give me a reason not to, but then I dont hate them.noway

I have never HATED anyone. I have hated things like cancer, but never a person.

HATE is as big of a word, as LOVE, to me.smokin

And yes, I do believe alot of my love, comes from the love I receive, from God.

Cowboy why isn't the creation of hell mentioned in genesis if God created everything.Remember satan fell before adam and eve were created so where is hell exactly?Remember the Hebrews didn't believe there was a hell.

Because Genesis is the knowledge of our creation and the creation of the world.

Synonyms of genesis are - origin - birth - rise - provenance - origination

It is the origin of our creation.
btw aren't you the one that stated you're dead until the second coming and when raised and you still don't believe you're dead for eternity, aka meaning you're not tormented for eternal damnation. So if thats the case then hell has no purpose if hell has no purpose then God never created it if God never created it then jesus never went.
So then why do preachers preach hell exist?because of lava lakes and volcanoes?

honor thy mother and they father,,,,,its one of Gods commandments

I dont think 'hate' is used in the context described above as there is no place else where Jesus instructs people to hate others,,,,,and since its a clear commandmnent to honor thy mother and father,,,

but whatever floats peoples interpretive boats,,,,this thread convinces me more and more that the bible will reflect what is already in our heart, as will what we take from it,,,,

MsHarmony....I'm on Jesus's side on this one....there were no indications in that presented passage that Jesus "instructed" anyone to hate...the passage also didn't make any claims that Jesus teaches "hate"....

but in the passage Jesus makes it perfectly clear not to come to him unless you already hate your family and your life ....

if you already hate yourself and your family then Jesus isn't violating the Commandment "honor thy Mother and thy Father"...only his Followers are violating that commandment

but once you stop hating your life and your family...then Jesus said that you can not be one of his disciples

1. That's not exactly what I said about the resurrection and being dead. I'm dead to this world is what I said. I do not live for this world, I live for God.

2. After Jesus judges the world, those whom's names were not written in the book of life eg., "saved" they will be thrown into the lake of fire along with Satan. And this is the "second death".
----------
Revelations 20
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
---------------

3 Hell is only temporary. It is a holding place for Satan and the angels that followed after him. That will be destroyed come judgement.

Question:

"What did Jesus mean when He instructed us hate our father and mother (Luke 14:26)?"

Answer:

First,
we must take this verse in the context of the chapter.

Jesus is teaching His disciples, and like any good teacher,
He begins with a truth statement that is hard to understand in order to get his students thinking.

CeriseRose....as usual that Satan Website "gotquestions.com" have steerred you into heatnenous false gospel

because nowhere in that passage did Jesus instruct anyone to hate....so why are you trying to defend it as if he did

Jesus said if you already hate yourself and your family is the only time you should come to him

think of Jesus as a therapist trying to cure you of Hate ...

True, to a destree. Jesus never instructed anyone to hate anyone, this much is true. But no he didn't say that's the only time you should come to him. He was saying to put God first, to love God before anything. Jesus says if you love him, you will keep him commandments. And Jesus has commanded us to love one another. So with loving one another, we are showing love to God by being obedient to his command. That is why he says UNLESS one hates ... they can not be his disciple. And once again, you have to keep in mind this is a translated verion of the scriptures. And when translating from one language to another, they are not exactly said 100%. And is why it's key to keep verses in context while keeping other things he has said in mind to figure out what he is meaning.

how can anyone mis-translate the term "hate"....perhaps the Hebrew word for Hate is Love ...like Micheal Jackson said that bad is good

but anyway Jesus made it perfectly clear that if you do not hate those closest to you and your life...then you can not be his disciples ....

it's no way to take that passage out of context ...and it brings up a host of questions ...

Not mis-translate the term "hate" specifically. But when translating from one language to another, it's not like Shava = hate, cassa = love, ect. They can only get "close" to the root meaning of the original word. And yes there is a way to take that passage out of context, just as it's being done now. Jesus is telling us to put God before anything or anyone else. That's it.

John 13:34
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another

Contradiction? Absolutely not. Because again, Jesus wasn't instructing us to hate anyone, just love him before anyone or anything else.

Funches.... it is good that you have at least a mustard seed of distrust for satan.

But I should remind you...that this [GQ] is a question and answer site.

The [GQ] site takes QUESTIONS from the public...

So, they[GQ.org] are not saying themselves, that Jesus INSTRUCTED followers to hate their families.

The question apparently was asked in that manner by someone who worded it that way.

From YOUR statement, it appears that YOU didn't read past the initial question.
You choose to be comical rather than gain a bit of knowledge. Think before you speak, funches!

The [GQ.org] website is highly recommended for it's reliability and biblical accuracy.

it is the bible itself that states the word "hate" and followers have to accept this without dispute...to go against the bible is to go against God .....

Jesus was teaching that those that hate will come to him and those that love would go to God

which might even explain why Paul wanted to crucify himself upside down as a warning not to follow Christianity

CeriseRose....what's comical is that you get your biblical information from a website and not from the Bible

I ponder how confuse those biblical people must have been in the days when there were no bible or Internet service providers

perhaps God should have given Adam and Eve an Internet Connection to gotquestion.com .....but following that site probably would have got kicked out of the Garden sooner

Yes, again the english version is TRANSLATED from the original language. And not two languages translates to one another 100% absolute exact same words. Jesus was for the last time telling us not to put anyone or anything before God. To not love them before God.

since you clearly can't speak write or read Hebrew...is the reason why you have "no choice" but to follow what has been written in the English Version Bibles ...

in the English Bible the word "Hate" is used ...so unless you want to insert another word and replace the word "hate"....then we have to go with the word "hate"

so how many other words in the bible do you wish to claim was written wrong

Yes and in the english language, many words have many different meanings depending on the context they are used. So keeping the verse(s) in context with all the other's, you can see Jesus was not directly us to directly "hate" anyone.

Nothing was written wrong, only your misunderstanding of what is written.

Funches....Everyone gazing into THIS forum is using the internet.

Some are here to gain knowledge or to share knowledge; others to misconstrue knowledge or to make fun of it.

I, and I hope others, here compare these answers with the scriptures...
even though usually a hefty amount of scripture references are given within the article.

Just read....funches! Pray for comprehension and faith...God will grant it!

I trust some have gained some knowledge on the topic.
