Topic: Is war really all about religion?

We have been led to believe that wars are about religious differences. Really? Do you think it is, really? Why would one person care what another person's religious beliefs are? I would like to know why Israel always seems to be smack in the center of every major conflict and war on earth. Is it really about religion? If so, then I want to know what is so horrible about the Jewish religion or any religion that people will spend generations killing each other over it. So let's hear your opinions. What is it about Israel's religion, that Muslims hate so much? What is it about Muslims religion that you say makes them hate Israel so much? If it is really about "religion" then lets discuss the religious points that are so crucial that two groups will spend generations killing each other. Both religions, even the Christian religion, are all derived from the same Book. THE BIBLE. So what, pray tell, is the big fat disagreement? I am not affiliated with any religion. I don't understand the hatred in the world and I don't understand why everyone blames it on "Oh they hate my religion." Why would my religion or lack thereof, cause a person to hate or fear me?

I ask this question because I think there is a solution to the problem of war. IF war really is all about "religion" then in order to abolish war, then we should start with abolishing organized corporate religion, --or at least crack down on any kind of religious influence over laws and basic human rights. Make religion a personal thing, and take it completely out of government. No longer give churches a tax exempt status (Then many of them will go out of business.) Make everyone a "minister" in his or her own right. Each person will be a "religion" unto them self. Abolish the office of the Pope and allow free access to the Catholic Churches secret documents.

The conflict is several thousand years old. Look into Isaac and Ishmael, starting here: http://www.therefinersfire.org/ishmael_and_isaac.htm Don't pay much attention to the editor's remarks, though. He says things like "NOTE: The covenant of circumcision was never, ever negated. ALL men who belong to YHWH, Jew and Gentile, must be circumcised!", which are clearly false even by a plain reading of the standard epistles as well as Orthodox church founders.

How old the conflict is was not really what I was looking for but I did find this on your link: "Muslims believe the Jews changed and distorted the Bible in order to establish themselves as the heirs of Abraham's Covenant blessings." So here we have a conflicting belief, that I'm sure is not limited to just Muslims and Jews. (I think the Bible has most probably been changed and distorted many times.... and I don't think any of it should cause people to kill each other for generations...) So perhaps each religion believes the same and has a different version of the Book. But apparently the Jews feel they are heirs of Abraham's covenant blessings? And what would those covenant blessings be?

Most conflict is caused by the basic formula: "Us" vs "Them", however you want to dress it up in excuses

Well, sometimes it is definitely about religions for example, there were The Crusades...and The Spanish Inquisition, The Islamic conquest of Persia...not all conflicts are about religion of course...just some. Why would my religion or lack thereof, cause a person to hate or fear me? war is about power, keeping it or taking it when people war over religious beliefs, they are scared of whatever 'powers' their religion endows them being taken away, or they feel the authority to make others consent to the powers they already believe they have people war over territory, because they want the power to control it people war over certain possessions and freedoms , because they fear losing the 'power' they feel they have over those things

People are taught to believe that it is all about religion, when actually it's about the feeling of superiority of some over others, struggle for power over people, land, etc. and believing God Almighty loves them best. God is no respecter of persons, he allows it to rain on the just and the unjust. Until people realize that we all descended from one set of parents and that we are all brothers and sisters, war will continue, possibly to the destruction of most of the human race. Oh man's inhumanity to man!! How hate drives people. I guess most people forget we were made from the dust of the earth and will return to it one day. If everyone became as little children with humble forgiving and loving hearts, what a wonderful world this would be.
