life has no meaning outside of whatever meaning we assign to it. with or without perceived, life goes on. it does not require meaning.
we can still assign one but the question is merely philosophical. my answer would be another question: what difference does it make? :) |

I don't know, the more I think..
about, all the millions of people.. who have been here before me! and are now gone.... is there a real meaning to it all.... besides you are born.. get through your life the best you can.. try not to step on too many toes... be honest.. treat people fairly.. .. perhaps have some offspring... .. yeah I think it's more like work eat sleep and die.... . |

42 Yeah, but what's the actual question? :) What do you mean when you mean meaning? We aren't the only species with self awareness, but we do seem to be the only one that seems to question our existence, the why's and wherefores. Love can be a meaning if you want it to be. Procreation can be a meaning if you want it to be (and in many cultures, that is the "accepted" meaning of life). Achieving nothingness can be a meaning also (ask a Buddhist) Or, killing as many people as you can in the most gruesome fashion possible could be a meaning also (ask most serial killers). My take is anything that justifies your existence for yet another day, and facing the inescapable death without going into a panic. Sounds a bit cynical, but if you look at it in a cold objective way it's really what it boils down to. lol... not a Douglas Adams fan, huh... |

Hello. Maybe you can rephrase your question to what is the purpose in life. Im too on a quest on finding the deeper meaning of life and also finding the real me. Right now i found out that contentment is the key for a happy, satisfied life. And being contented is not having a material thing. Its when you find happiness in simple things. Being able to appreciate and be content on whatever we have now. Im only 33 but im not afraid of dying. My only concern is the people around me. So im trying my best for them. I dont like having eniemies, i find it unworthy to make time for them. I dont dwell in the past. I dont regret in whatever i do now. I dont worry about the future but not in a sense that you just stand there and do nothing lol! Right now im focusing on helping to others while i still can.. i dont mind on having a younger or older friends. I dont choose friends by thier physical looks or by thier status. Yes, friends are the best things in life. They are the real treasures next after families. And if there are fake, i simply let them go and i dont plant grudges on anyone. I can be mature but i prefer my immature side on public. And i dont care whatever they say. Just smile always. (Insecure people hate it when you always smile haha!) Go out, Party, travel, work sometimes, smile always lol! Focus on something good that they will remember you forever. I prefer to live like a rat and die like king.. Find your satisfaction in life but expect the unexpected. Learn to let go and move on. Learn to appreciate little things. Be content on whatever you have right now and develop a meaningful purpose not only for yourself but for others and the rest. If you will find your purpose, no doubt, you will find the answer of the true meaning of life. Goodluck and have a good day! Peace!

There is no such thing as the meaning of life. Meaning is something that we create and attribute with thought/belief and language. Life does not require thought/belief and/or language. Meaning consists completely of exactly that. Therefore, life does not have meaning beyond that which we attribute to it. Moreover, it is that which we care about most that means the most, thus the meaning we have in our life is determined by that which we care about most and how we've come to terms with it. |

Well whether or not I agree with the simplification all depends upon what "it" refers to. "It" to some would be "wine, women, and song!" To some "it" would be "family". To some "it" would be "work". Even a pattern with infinite variation is still a pattern.

Okay, everybody seems to be content to profess 'what-they-like' about their existence, but nobody is discussing 'why-they-exist.'
