Hello Tealbreeze,
I was just wondering how you know it does not have an internal mic?

I do have an external mic somewhere, just have to dig it out of a box somewhere in the basement.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

mmmmm, doesn't say anything about internal mic for her brand. Says external mic port. So it wouldn't be configuration or drivers.

Yes, buy a microphone.

oh yeah, Hiya Isaac.

Have you ever looked into UNITY? It is pretty good. You make what you want and it can convert the codes to every platform that you choose. So I have been told.

ok, so my old laptop wouldn't stop downloading and installing win 8.1 and it corrupts my system and renders the lapper useless.

after trying for countless hours to make it stop this and spending somewhere around 35 hours online with microsoft tech's, i finally gave up and purchased a new one. (microsoft refused to replace the orginal laptop)

now i have a year-&-a-half old, $600.00 paperweight.

it runs win 8 and the techs keep telling me that it is not supposed to install 8.1 on it's own, but every time i revert back to 8, it takes about 4 days for it to install 8.1 again...

From what you have said it is not a paper weight. If you want it fixed I can fix it for you, you just need to let me know what operating system you want on it. Yes you will need to send it to me. If you want me to fix it it will cost $150.00 total. Just let me know and I will send you my email address so that I can send you my address because I am not going to put my address out here for every one to see.

Funny story y'all...

Last night (on the phone) I was trying to help a woman get her laptop sound unmuted. During the conversation I asked her if she saw a speaker down by her clock. I told her to right click and choose properties.

She had no clue what I was talking about. She said "I am clicking it right!"

After a whole lot of explaining I finally found out she had the mute checked.

Now I am her hero.

Another funny thing is that this topic is almost two years old .. so posting solutions to those problems is kinda pointless .. to say the least

Yeah, some people should not play with deadly items. LOL

2 years, isn't that the viable life of any computer? At two years its obsolete. I'm running Win7 on a 2012 HP. It runs perfect and I don't want a new one but I know that eventually it will give up the ghost.

I have a xp laptop. It still runs great - a bit glitch and noisy but I'm 55 and my joints creak too.

While I understand how to use the computers how they work is still magic to me. I don't have to know everything about them to use them effectively. I do need to have sense.

> Use protection software
> Keep the dust out - heat kills electronics
> Don't try to make it do what it is not designed to do.
> Have plenty of RAM
> Have plent of Hard Drive Space
> Have enough cache and a large enough paging file
> Run cleaners and maintenance regularly
> Defragment regualarly more if you install/uninstall programs
> Stay out of the registry
> Don't mess with windows components
> Stop clicking on stuff you shouldn't be clicking on.
> Maintain a backup, on a different drive or on an online host or both.

You are NOT going to get a free anything by clicking an ad.
Porn gives you viruses
Spywear slows down your computer
Read the installer, lots of stuff that is free comes with piggyback software that you allowed on your system because you didn't opt out.
Once that crap is on your system it plays havoc and is very hard to get rid of.

Well .. it depends on how look at .. what are your needs. I got a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop recently. A customer brought it for spare parts or recycling. Decided to give it a try and not to throw it to trash .. bought a cheap, but faster HDD, added more RAM, cleaned it from dust, etc, but the most important thing - installed a Linux OS on it. Now it runs fast like a modern computer, though its release date is 2003! Sure you can't do many things simultaneously - a single core cpu won't handle that, graphics won't support HD videos .. but it works fine as a simple Internet machine. You can still read your email .. news .. do your online banking stuff, use skype, etc .. so it's perfect for the older folks, who don't need much out of it and won't play games.
So seems the coin has two sides .. and if the computer ain't "prehistoric" you might still want to keep it .. :)

Ty for helping out, my Sony Vaio VGN-NW120D Ltop keys don't all work. I have tried a few things to no avail. Do you know if a Sony Vaio vgn-sr210d keyboard is compatible with my nw120D lap top?
Thank you

Well .. which keys and when they stopped working? If you've upgraded your OS, this might happen.
Sometimes some other updates might cause stuff like that .. perhaps you've used a driver updater .. ??
Have you checked Device Manager, if there is a driver problem maybe .. should show a yellow triangle for particular device. Try to remove and reinstall the keyboard via Device Manager.
As of compatibility, I can't say for sure .. coz each model is on its own .. but it's always the best to use an original replacement part. You can buy a new one from eBay for cheap.
But you can check it visually too .. take the non-working off the laptop and take a look. If those two look identical .. measures, cables, etc .. it might work. Then try to replace it .. if the ribbon cable is connectable, you're good to go.
But I'd suggest to check the software side first ..

Okay, I have a computing issue that would be nice to be resolved.

My PC came with 8 USB 2.0 ports. Mouse and keyboard are on two of them.

I bought two My Book 4 TB external harddrives.

If I connect both at the same time, one will not read. My Computer (Win7) will not pick it up until I unplug the other and reboot the My Book power.

I also have a BlacX dual hard drive dock with a 2 TB and 1 TB drive in each slot. The BlacX will boot up with one My Book okay but the 2nd My Book will not read if all are connected at the same time.

I've reformated both My Books and set partitions on each. Both work but not at the same time. I want to transfer files between the two but I am forced to use a 3rd drive as a go between.

My machine is a HP h8-1214 Pavillion HPE
AMD FX-6100 6 core processor 3.30 GHz
10.0 GB memory
64 bit
Mainboard is a 2AC8 Gigabyte
BIOS is AMI Ang_713 12/29/2011
Graphics is a AMD Radeon HD 7450
Storage Controller is AMD AHCI Compatible Raid Controller
There are no problems in my Universal Serial Bus Controller list on my Device Manager.
As Far as I know, There are no services suspended or disabled that affect the ability to read devices.

Could there be a conflict in the MFT of the two similar drives that prevent aquisition? I'm thinking that the MFT may be the same so it only picks up one or the other?

Well, I'm more the guy to fix a broken hardware and stuff like that, so this question might seem to be dumb, but have you checked that there is a different drive letter for each of your external HDD, so the OS could pick them up correctly?
The other thing which comes to mind is a motherboard .. does it support such amount of HDD storage at the same time ..?

Tom4Uhere's photo
Mon 03/13/17 07:44 AM
Yes, Drive letters are correct.
I have no idea how to check the motherboard for hdd capacity? I know there is a ram capacity and my old winMe computer would not read a 160gb drive once (only could read 32gb) but These drives are set to act like USB jump drives not logical drives. None of my drives will boot and if I have them on when I start my system my system will not start.

None of the drives are formatted over 2 TB and my main drive in my computer is a 2 TB. This makes me think it can handle a drive up to at least 2 TB.

It reads the dual dock with 3 TB and one of the 4 TB My Book drives at the same time just fine. It is only when I try to run both My Books at the same time that one of the My Books doesn't read. It doesn't read any of the assigned drives at all. If I unplug the one My Book and plug in the other it will read it when I refresh for hardware changes.

I have an expansion bay and was thinking about buying a USB 3.0 PCI to add USB 3.0 to my available ports. The My Books are rated at USB 3.0. I just can't see how that should matter for anything besides transfer speed?

Could the identifier data be the same for both My Books? They were bought a year apart but perhaps Western Digital uses the same ID for the 1st disk? Or something like that? They both work fine, they just won't work at the same time?
