i watched a video the other day which was kind of a guide to Europe for Americans (other nationalities are available), basically advising said people about Europe in general and how things in Europe are quite different from home,

some of the things that were discussed about the video was quite surprising, considering the world is not as small a place as it used to be even 15-20 years ago,

so for Americans (or other nationalities) who aren't quite sure about how things work outside their country here is a chance for you to ask any questions, however stupid they may seem) about Europe.

a few pointers to begin with, which were some of the more surprising aspects of the video

-Europe isn't a country like America, its a continent
-there are over 45 different countries in Europe, including transcontinetal countries and other states there are over 50!
-most of these speak their own language, while some countries,have several different official languages.

quite shocking to read that so many Americans weren't aware that not everyone in Europe spoke,English,French or German, or that there was so many different nations.

Okay, most important thing I've always wanted to know; what's the average cost of a pint of beer in London?

is john cleese part of the welcoming comity?

Do you have any dangerous beaches? If so, what makes them dangerous?

The thing I found was if making the effort (for a few phrases) it is appreciated.

I also found that (most) speak English....and I got used to it. I got called for NOT making the effort from a friend......Ashamedly....."The Ugly American". (it was late and and I got lazy calling the front desk)

The other thing.....the hardest English to understand so far in my limited travels........is from the FREEGIN ENGLISH!

that's so true and one problem the British have, is that it's perceived that everyone else in Europe speaks English so we don't need to bother learning their language.
but it is polite and shows you appreciate their culture is different from yours.
i cringe with embarrassment when i see and hear British people in Spain, for example who don't speak Spanish, the Spanish person doesn't speak much English so the Brit thinks it's acceptable to shout at someone to try and make them understand,learn some of the language you prick!

There should be a law against it!! It's biological / chemical warfare stuff. Just the scent alone can kill people

Nah... it's just the Germans. They dig huge holes in the beaches to sit in. If you're not careful you break your neck when strolling on the beach.
Don't know why they do it, idiots.

I started putting malt vinegar on my fish at Long John Silver's decades ago!! Fish and Chips may, percentage wise, be the hamburger of Great Britain but tons of the stuff is eaten in the US every day.
