Is it necessary to sleep with a person before deciding to get married to said person?

Only if you want to know what your sex life
with them will be like after.

Otherwise, it's a crapshoot.

I'm afraid I have to agree. But don't just start firing off marriage proposals left and right. You could be in for a hair raising experience!

It depends on how important sex is to you.

⤴ This. It all depends where your priorities lie.

In a loving, respectful and considerate relationship, I think intimacy/sex is important to a relationship.

True it is part of the relationship, but you can not let it rule the relationship. After 365 days of sex, you will have to work on your relationship. If all you've put into the relationship is acrobatics. You won't have any were to go.

If she makes you *** more than once during sex.....then she is a definite keeper. If she cooks like an assassin slices cheese then marry her.

My parents didn't and they've been married for 57 years.

I decide to marry someone for a lot more reasons than just weather or not I think I would enjoy them sexually. Do I always need to prove every thing I believe about that person before I marry them? No. And that includes sex.

That said IMHO if you can not know if you are going to enjoy someone sexually "before" then you really don't that person very well. At least for me I know a person's "chemistry" and have a very clear understanding weather I want to be "with" them or not And can pretty much tell what that person is going to want/enjoy being with me.

Actually yes I would want to know what I was getting.
I test drive a car before I buy it and I trade that in....marriage is for life so he11 yes I am test driving it! And if I can't get it souped up might be time to trade that model in.

Well, now you don't know that for sure... Maybe 15 years ago, I happened to be yakking over drinks with mother in law, who is now 91.. well, it came out that they had sex in the backseat of his vehicle after a short while of dating and before marriage.. this was back in like, 1943.. (she would have been about 19)...a lot of girls were on their own at 16 back then.. but it was funny, when she came clean about it..

Is it necessary to sleep with a person before deciding to get married to said person?

Sort of.

I mean I wouldn't legally marry someone for several years of dating and relationship.

If I haven't slept with someone for several years I would think that odd.

And sitting here I just can't come up with a reason I would accept as justifiable whereas I would still continue to be around them for years. As they would have told me their reason within the first month or few months of dating/relationship.

Theoretically, is it necessary to sleep with a person before deciding to get married? Will I be standing at the alter having dated them for years and realize "I haven't slept with them!" and then decide not to marry them?
No.

Would I date someone and decide to marry them and then give them an ultimatum? Like "Will you marry me? I want to marry you...but we have to sleep together first or I don't wanna."
No. I wouldn't do that.

So, theoretically it's not "necessary."

But I can't imagine any kind of realistic scenario where the two things would come up together.

I wouldn't date a virgin. I wouldn't date someone religious.
I wouldn't date someone that believed they were a "born again" virgin. I wouldn't date someone that was a recovering sex addict, or banged every guy before me but somehow I'm special and she wants to wait.

Those denote personality traits in people that are simply not compatible with me.

It's not necessary.
There's just no valid reason not to that someone I would actually date could give me.
