I agree. I am wrong. It didn't work.
Great points by ciretom & igor, thanx

I guess I am just too stupid to be in a relationship and have no right in the forums.

Thanx for pointing out how hopeless I am.

You're not hopeless, just lonely. But addressing your needs may be " a little out of our ballpark", to quote Col. Potter.

You insulted us when we didn't instantly "get" your recitation, and now you are pretending that we've made negative declarations about you which we haven't made. Resentful petulance doesn't accomplish anything. I've done it myself in the past, so I know this very well.

I got it too, pretty clear as well, but alas.
The only thing I found myself thinking... why try to address the ants and the elephant when clearly you have to talk to your partner?
I get the point you're trying to make though.

I think what you describe happens a lot to many people. The only way around is to learn through past and present relationships and change the way you engage in them. Meaning: communicate. Don't wait, don't bottle things up and wait for it all to explode.
Learning to communicate properly is so important, and practising it too of course.
Not necessarily easy though...

The problem I have with argument-by-analogies such as this one, is that the analogy itself becomes the thing being argued about.

Problems in relationships aren't at all like having a real elephant in the one space you need to live in. Nor are ants exactly like having small problems.

Just from a writers point of view, and from a teacher's point of view, any analogy that requires that much of an explanation, isn't doing what analogies are supposed to do: they are supposed to SHORTEN AND CLARIFY what you are talking about, not lengthen and confuse it with distractions.

I agree with you ... I got the messages but the rest started to confuse me a bit ... but hey I read the whole thing for once lol

I had never heard the story of the ants but knew about the Elephant in the Room. I even bought an ugly elephant planter once, hoping to start a conversation about why I bought it. My SO at the time, never mentioned it and we continued living with the elephant in the room until I told him he had to leave. He never understood why. I said I would never be in a relationship like that again if we couldn't discuss our problems. I guess that's why I'm still alone!
