Have you noticed The Disappearance of your dance clubs in your local city..
I'm referring to those big bars night clubs that had a dance floor on them...
It was a place to go to meet other single people... well here where I live I've noticed the decline of any place suitable to meet a single person.. as in detached not dating anyone or married single person...Lol..
They all have seem to be replaced with sit down restaurants such as Earls are Moxie's..
Sports bar types of restaurants..
Pretty hard to pick somebody up when they're sitting down... do you think the places that used to be available to meet other single people have gone the way of the dodo because of online dating?

I don't go to clubs and bars...I don't really drink in public.
Can't afford to chance a DUI.

That being said, there are 4 or 5 new construction bars at the beach recently.
There has been rapid construction since they opened the new marina.
A new bar opened in the plaza too.
All have dance floors, stages and live bands.

The beach bars are 3 stories with patios and, being on the beach, they have a designated beach area with chairs and tables.

One of the bars has a volley ball net, washers/bag toss, offers ski doo rentals and has waitresses outside.
There are even mini bars and fire pits at two of them outside.
All offer high-end food, figure $25 a plate.
They are packed with people most of the times I go past.

I peeked into the new bar in the plaza and it has a big dance floor with strobes, a long wooden bar and tables and chairs.
Its pretty new so it isn't usually packed when I go past.
It does have an outside area served by waitresses and plays music, not sure if they have live bands.
It serves food from the next door wings & seafood shop that is owned by the same person.

I remember in the early 80s when I was single I used to go to a lot of bars with dance floors around Virginia Beach.
The NCO Club on base had a dance floor too.

I really miss going out to hear a live band and get my groove on- No such thing around these parts anymore! *sigh

I think that is the case for a lot of people.
When I was living in PA there was nothing to do.

Now, Living on the beach on the South Coast there is always something happening.
There are casinos all along the beach that offer live headliner bands, plus there is the Coast Coliseum that always has an event going on.
(Avenged Sevenfold will be here in January)

I don't really think it is a trend caused by online dating tho.
I think it has to do with attendance and dollar signs.
Less DWI of possible patrons due to a higher awareness of the laws.
The "Night Club" scene is migrating to the "Vacation Destinations".
Plus, zoning laws have put a dampener on loud, party-type businesses.
Plus, there is no real profits unless the area has high tourist populations or has large 20-40 year old population.

I have lived in a few communities over the years that have live outdoor free concerts in the park.
That depends on the community and the type of music being played.

They knocked a night club down recently here and built student apartments. Now the students have nowhere to go out to.

No problem in Nashville. Got plenty of them, especially along lower Broadway.
Lots of tourists though, but sometimes it can work in your favor. laugh

Small towns here on the Oregon coast.

But the bars and the casino all have dance floors
for their live bands 4-5 days a week, including
Fridays and Saturdays.

You could swing 'er about, mate, capture a few
Matt Lauer moments :-)

Yes, the times, they are a changing..
Back in the day - (35 years ago)..the hotels/bars used to have huge rooms with long tables and chairs set up.. live bands... booze... take your friends, meet people, dance, drink,... etc... we called them 'Cabarets'.. they've gone the way of the DODO.. too bad,.. they were fun, you met people.. The kids of today are missing out on the socialization..well, not just them... me too! wish they were backdrinker

Have you noticed The Disappearance of your dance clubs in your local city..

Not really.
At most I've noticed my waning interest in going to them or caring whether or not they exist.
Last place I lived (high population) I do remember radio adverts for a new club opening every few weeks. How long they lasted I have no idea, they generally don't advertise that.

do you think the places that used to be available to meet other single people have gone the way of the dodo because of online dating?

Not really.
There's no such thing as online "dating" IMO.
IMO most people want to meet and go do things, rather than just sit online and delude themselves that their "relationship" is growing.

I think if "places that used to be available to meet other single people have gone the way of the dodo" it's because of many factors, including what pushed people towards "online dating."
I don't think any dodoism of clubs or whatever is due to online dating popularity.

I mean you could probably look into the increase in women in the workforce and their disposable income and wanting a greater commensurate experience for their buck as a contributing factor.
Or increased liability and insurance rates decreasing the desire for businesses to install slippery dance floors.
Or increased enforcement of fire codes, rent per square foot, and noise ordinances, leading to businesses focusing on what directly generates revenue.

Not to mention the ease of acquiring drugs and alcohol, iPods and portable speakers, "raves," as well as concerts (where I grew up, there was a music concert from someone famous maybe 2 times a year, now it's at least weekly).
IOW increased competition.

IMO these are greater factors contributing to any decline in "dance clubs" than online dating could ever be.

There are still nightclubs/dance floors around.... although they are usually frequented by the 20-30 years old singles... if that's ur thing...
the sit down restaurants were always around, they don't replace the nightclubs. There are more lounges that have live music or just a place to go with friends that aren't a stereotype to a pick up joint.... on line dating or hook up sites have nothing to do with a dance floor...
What is the biggest difference in 'picking someone up' whether it's at a nightclub or whether they are sitting down??
I guess if u ask yourself what ur really looking for when ur picking someone up... pretty sure there's a place somewhere for whatever ur answer is... google can provide u some options if your stuck.

Yes...most of the dance places i used to frequent have disappeared from the landscape where I used to live in the mid Atlantic region...after the disco era passed, there was a brief surge with line dancing but i think that has also waned...

Yes.
The timing was too close to be a coincidence.
