Bad acting, bad filming. Appeals to early teen boys because of the fighting. To me, a low 3/10 rating. Greenland (2020) g butler fantasy disaster Well made movie with end of the world scenario which has been done to death. Still a fairly entertaining film. For me, 5/10 rating mostly for the premise. If it would have had something 'new' to the story I would rate it higher. Well-made tho. The New Mutants (2020) m williams action fantasy Not the mutant movies from the X-Men fame. A darker story with decent acting and production values. Worth a watch. For me, a strong 7/10. Certainly worth watching if you can put X-Men out of your head and treat it as a new different film. Boss Level (2020) m gibson f grillo action scifi A different take on the ground hog day scenario. Lots of action and some humor but a touching story of love as well which changes the tone of the film near the end. For me, a strong 8/10 rating. Not for the action but for the way it ended. Certainly worth at least one watch if not more. |

The Contender - 2000
Lot of big names in this movie, Jeff Bridges and Sam Elliot to name 2. It is labelled "thriller, political". I did not find the thriller part, but alas. It was a good movie for sure, although I skipped quite the chunk in the middle with interrogation, accusations etc as that kind of drama only angers me. Nevertheless, well worth watching! When the sitting Vice President dies, Senator Laine Hanson is chosen by the President to be the first woman to hold the office. The selection meets with opposition from members of both parties, in particular a powerful political adversary who will seemingly stop at nothing to discredit her. Her confirmation hearings set off a firestorm of controversy as shocking secrets from Hanson's past are revealed, threatening her personal life as well as her political future. |

I love movies like that An older disaster movie about a global pandemic ELE is Virus 1980 (aka Day of Resurrection). Starring: Masao Kusakari, George Kennedy, Robert Vaughn, Chuck Connors, Olivia Hussey, Edward James Olmos, Ken Ogata, Glenn Ford and Sonny Chiba. A US military-engineered virus, released during a plane crash, kills almost the entire human population. The only survivors are scientists and military personnel in Antarctica, who desperately try to find a cure and save what is left of the human population from further destruction. The Full movie is available to watch free on Youtube because it has now been deemed Public Domain. Its not a big budget modern disaster movie but it is a very good mobvie worth watching if you like these kinds of films. Certainly worth a look-see. The film is notable for being the most expensive Japanese film ever made at the time.
