Was at a club with a dance floor last night and that has caused 2 questions for your valued input:
1. Society accepts 2 women dancing together as acceptable without sexual preference assignment, why doesn't society accept the same of 2 men?
2. Why do so many men refuse to dance?

Maybe men are more insecure?

Maybe it is because women show affection each other without being lesbian. And normally men when they dance or touch each other is because they are gays. Society is crue !

1. Society accepts 2 women dancing together as acceptable without sexual preference assignment, why doesn't society accept the same of 2 men?

Because men and women aren't the same.

Might as well ask "society demands men pee standing up by putting urinals on the wall. Why isn't the same demand made for women? Why society?! Why!? It's all your fault society!"

2. Why do so many men refuse to dance?

Because they generally don't get the same thing out of it by doing it as women.
Might as well ask why do so many women refuse to have sex at a drop of a hat with the nearest attractive stranger.

Just another one of those cultural quirks.

Some cultures ONLY allow men to dance.

We live where we live.

One thing that's a shame about this, is that I've seen repeatedly how strong the influence of cultural norms and ideas are. Even people who verbally challenge the idea that two men should be able to dance together without endangering their status as heterosexual males, still end up thinking less of them when they actually do.

Because there's nothing pleasing to the eyes when they do.

Oh, I don't know about all that?
I can tear up a dance floor, well, could. Now its tough to walk sometimes...

As for dancing with other men, 'That' is considered sexy competition.
Men don't slow dance together but given the right audience, getting the 'groove on' while in the vicinity of other men getting the 'groove on' worked very well for me because ... 'I've got rhythm' and I can 'make the moves', 'keep the beat', 'slam down my sexy'.
All those moves give an indication of lovemaking skills and given the state of most men's dancing moves, I'm smooth, graceful, flexible and decisive with an attention to detail.

Well, If I was to see two men dancing together out on the dance floor.. I would think they were gay

Now if you are gay, that is fine. but if you are not.. the rumors will start to fly.. quickly. And straight men don't like to be labeled as gay.

not PC.. but true.

here in the U.S., women have been dancing together out on the dance floor.. forever.. nothing new there. Men hardly.. ever.. actually in the straight world.. never, Unless they are drunk.

so when it is seen in the straight world... well...what would you think.. what would be your first thought

but I know.. its not PC to actually say it.. so we can stick with "

Unless they are drunk.

Come to think about it, I haven't been on a dancefloor not drunk since high school dances...Good point.

In my defense tho, I tend to dance with girlfriends and lovers at home, with or without music. I also play a really mean air guitar...

Maybe men in general are more self-conscious when it comes to something like dancing? Not so in touch with their bodies in that way? Thinking/feeling it's not 'macho' (read: masculine).
Also, dancing, free dancing so not a dance with set routines and steps, is feminine energy based. Not planning, just going with the flow, following your inner rhythm, doing what feels good in the moment, no strategy, no plan and so on.
It's spontaneous, free flowing, and from the 2nd -sacral- chakra, which is feminine energy.
Dancing like that, moving tha hips, also gets the energy in the 2nd chakra going. It's a way to activate it.
I think men are not that comfortable with it as most aren't in touch with their feminine side, also called "not so empowered".

Which also means that when a woman is dancing, and dancing well, enjoying it fully, she is in her power, in her feminine energy. It is natural.
I think that has much to do with it.
It takes a man with baws to do the same thing, someone who is confident, in touch with his body and his feelings/emotions (= sacral chakra).

1] women are more likely to dance together because some men wont dance,so they dont have any other choice, except to dance alone,[and, some women WILL],and the women look at dancing as a culturally learned way to appear attractive to a potential mate,so it is ingrained into them at an early age that women are SUPPOSED to dance

2]some men refuse to dance because the have never learned, and are not good at it,and dont want to be embarrassed by their lack of skill, which is ingrained into THEM as a skill they need to apprear attractive to a potential mate.

as to what society WILL accept,i guess it all depends on the society.

in SOME cultures,it is normal for men to dance together, and there are even SOME places here in the U.S. where it is not unusual to see it happen, although,it is generally in places where homosexuality is not taboo.

1. In my part of the world,(Western Canada), gals have been dancing together since highschool in the entryways and hallways of the schools...the guys were out playing ball or chasing sticks.
2. I don't think men refuse to dance, I think they don't know how. Then there is the different types of music that you can dance to and you can't.. How many young people today know how to do the two-step, or the polka? nah... they shuffle and weave..
Thank goodness I was raised in a time of country dances - we learned from our parents the two step, the polka, schottische.

If you actually watch some of the younger generation dance, you will find they do have organized steps to the music. Not as in line dancing or as couples you are use to but still learned steps that go with the music. I watched and listened to one young lady explaining the steps to her mother and uncle - multiple complicated steps put together to the music.
