TUMERIC

tumeric is believed to have antiinflammatory properties and has been used for centuries in ardeyuvic medicines . The issue with tumeric is its bioavailability and that in certain groups of people it is contraindicated . Black pepper is believed to improve uptake of tumeric’s compound . Curcumin , however it is still questionable how much and how effective the Compound is in its raw state .

There are supplements available but the concern then is with dose and side effects (And bioavailability) . We know people who take blood thinners .. have anaemia , gallstones , reflux or gastric ulcers are among the groups who are advised to avoid tumeric .

There is a theory that curcumin may play a role in helping reduce lung fibrosis and lung information but there is limited scientific proof of this . we do know those who suffer a moderate to severe infection with covid may be left with permanent lung fibrosis . If curcumin has a role to play in limiting fibrosis this has not been scientifically established .

There is also concern that Curcumin has an affect on ace2 (also not yet scientifically validated) Which may increase the risk of covid infection . I have explained before about the ace2 enzyme / receptor and how it is believed covid may be affecting pulmonary cells (and heart/GI) cells and gaining entry via Ace2 receptor/enzyme sites

Many people use tumeric to reduce arthritic pain caused by inflammation . .. some sources claim taking curcumin can be as effective as taking Ibuprofen . I have never used it so unable to comment . Perhaps others who have had success with tumeric night like to comment .

Applying it in paste form to skin is different from oral consumption . For it to be bioavailable it needs to survive gastrointestinal acids and metabolism .

There has definitely been a big increase in the sale of tumeric powders and supplements .. tumeric lattes are now popular and it is common to see products sold in the health section of supermarkets . Like anything check for medication interactions with curcumin ., check if you have any health conditions which preclude you from using it . If you have never used tumeric before , as you would taking anything new ...introduce slowly and check for allergy/gastrointestinal / side effects

I believe India has a very high tumeric consumption . If it has any protection against covid that will hopefully be reflected in their statistics . . Will definitely Keep my fingers crossed

A separate note to jai .. I watched on the news last night a clip from India showing a large group of people seated on the ground outdoors being sprayed with the equivalent of a water blaster with disinfectant ., .. I am still in shock and disbelief at what I saw ., would love to hear your comment on this . No judgement just concern waving

I use turmeric powder in almost all dishes i eat at home. Its common in india. But is there any scientific evidence or research that states turmeric may reduce lung inflammation? Even if it does it would be just a therapy to relieve symptoms of the disease.

The official figures of infected people in india are low due to the very very low testing rate of the country. In total only some 60,000 people are tested so far. And out of those 60,000 around 2500 are tested positive. I estimate the real infected numbers to be around at least several millions, judging by the population of 1300 million people.

Hi blaze .. I have been unable to find scientific data about lung infection but I am still going through several medical databases . Will post post if I find anything interesting .

I agree with you about the current stats for India . There seems to be multiple migrations happening with poor populations and homeless individuals . They are definitely an at risk and vulnerable population . Will be watching with concern as covid spreads .

I use turmeric when I can because I have bad knees, hips and ankles. I don't know if it helps but I figure it can't hurt.

I've been staying home. Recently, a week ago, had the biggest earthquake hit near here since 1983.

From the the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry: The Essential Medicinal Chemistry of Curcumin

Curcumin is a constituent (up to ∼5%) of the traditional medicine known as turmeric. Interest in the therapeutic use of turmeric and the relative ease of isolation of curcuminoids has led to their extensive investigation. Curcumin has recently been classified as both a PAINS (pan-assay interference compounds) and an IMPS (invalid metabolic panaceas) candidate. The likely false activity of curcumin in vitro and in vivo has resulted in >120 clinical trials of curcuminoids against several diseases. No double-blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial of curcumin has been successful. This manuscript reviews the essential medicinal chemistry of curcumin and provides evidence that curcumin is an unstable, reactive, nonbioavailable compound and, therefore, a highly improbable lead.

and maybe with some hot curried lamb ?

GOOD NEWs:

http://www.seattlepi.com/coronavirus/amp/good-news-about-novel-coronavirus-15141530.php

Looks like the theory about ace2 was correct . Not sure exactly yet how this is good news .. given the important role ace2 has on vital organs especially the heart lungs kidney and gastrointestinal tract .

What is not clear yet is if those who take beta blockers and ace2 inhibitors have an increased risk . ... the theory is this type of medication affects Angiotensinogen uptake and because covid hi jacks the enzymes and receptors involved in the angiotensinogen pathway that there may be free (unbound) angiotensinogen circulating in the blood .

It is very important that cardiiac medications should not be stopped suddenly so if you take beta blockers or ace inhibitors do not stop unless your doctor advises you to . There has been no conclusive evidence yet .
In fact .. blood pressure medications are being researched to see if they may alleviate covid symptoms .

Most of the other good news is about vaccine development . These still need to be clinically trialled but huge global effort underway .. high five for all the scientific endeavours  waving

Also, conspiracy theories tend to turn out as being false.

Numbers don't seem to go up that much anymore, wait and see the coming week how stable this is.

They're starting research concerning people's resistance to the virus, people who have been exposed and not, all ages. They hope to learn if this resistance against the virus is lasting or not so they know what to do and expect in case of another outbreak.

I do hope most countries will be over the peak by now. Belgium is still not doing great, seems Germany is beginning to have less new cases.

I think the real problems may arise when we are allowed out again, hihi. People will go nuts, wanting to go everywhere, restaurants, pubs, alcohol, beaches, and OMG... Influx of tourists... And maybe a baby boom 9 months from then...

I wonder how they plan on doing this and maintaining order at the same time. Once people know it's safe(r) I doubt they can be controlled any longer. It might also give a rise in cases again, everyone getting together, festivals with thousands of people on top of each other...

I also have a feeling that's why since April they've changed the way they keep us posted on the numbers and don't really tell us much about recovery.
It got less transparent. Probably deliberately, but I don't like it.

I have been having difficulty finding the new case trends easily, seems like it is getting harder to locate. I do see in the states where some areas are starting to level off while others are rapidly increasing. The social distancing only is as good as the weak links (people)! Trying to protect ourselves is the best we can do, can't fix stupid people!!

I like this site. Click "USA" and you get to see all the info per state, new cases, total cases, etc. etc.
I use it daily for my country and the surrounding ones. I find it very accurate.

COPY & PASTE THE URLS, including the httpS. The forum board cannot digest them, not without the S either.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

This one is brilliant too, you can zoom in on -in your case- the US and get to see all the different places / cities, and click on them. It's interactive and the data for that citie/area will come up in a window.
