Thousands of people are sharing stories of their prolonged battle with Covid-19, using hashtags and joining Facebook groups like the Long Covid Support Group, which has more than 5,200 members.

Data from the Covid Symptom Study app, downloaded more than three million times, suggests a "significant number" of people report symptoms for a month. One in 10-20 report it for longer than that, says genetic epidemiologist Prof Tim Spector, who came up with the app idea.

"What may well be different with Covid-19 is the sheer range of observed long-term health consequences."

“This technology gives Veterans the chance to participate in remote medical appointments with their provider,” said GCVHCS Facility Telehealth Coordinator Michelle Wilkerson. “Using the [mobile] app, a Veteran can either chat or have a video consultation with their healthcare team or provider from almost anywhere.”

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced in June that the use of VA Video Connect has supported a more than 1000 percent increase in video visits directly to Veterans homes or other place of choice during the ongoing global pandemic. Between February and May, video visits to Veterans homes increased from 10,000 to more than 127,000 per week during the last week in May.

Veterans interested in learning more about telehealth options are encouraged to contact the GCVHCS.

Coronavirus: Are mutations making it more infectious?

The coronavirus that is menacing the world right now is not the same as the coronavirus that first emerged in China.

The notable mutation - named D614G and situated within the protein making up the virus's "spike" it uses to break into our cells - appeared sometime after the initial Wuhan outbreak, probably in Italy. It is now seen in as many as 97% of samples around the world.

In fact, the D614G variant is so dominant, it is now the pandemic. And it has been for some time - perhaps even since the start of the epidemic in places like the UK and the east coast of the US. So, while evidence is mounting that this mutation is not neutral, it doesn't necessarily change how we should think about the virus and its spread.

On a more reassuring note, most of the vaccines in development are based on a different region of the spike so this should not have an impact on their development. And there's some evidence the new form is just as sensitive to antibodies, which can protect you against an infection once you've had it - or been vaccinated against it.

then late on Tuesday night I was awoken from my sleep by an emergency text alert advising 4 cases of covid had been detected in Auckland with source of infection unknown . (Sounded like the tsunami/ earthquake alert lol) Auckland is now back in alert level 3 lockdown and the rest of nz alert level 2 , while the ministry of health attempts to contact trace, test and establish the origin .

A cold store facility which receives international goods is being tested as a potential source .
