I took in a guy who had nowhere to live. Rent was due, he said he was going to withdraw money and be back soon. Several days passed, he came back with no rent. I told him my friend would give him a ride anywhere he would like...with his bags packed.
Then I had a snooty lady who worked odd hours. My home had children, she knew that. But she would slam doors and have hissy fits about the family noise. The last straw was when she waited outside the bathroom to confront my visitors for accidently turning on the bathroom fan.
Like, wow, get earplugs. The day she got the courage to once again passively aggressively 'complain' in words, I asked her to move.

Ha, I have many experiences of the weirdest flatmates/housemates etc.
What has been your worst experience?

I live alone in my own rental and like to keep it that way.
So no housemates. The only reason I'd ever consider that is if I owned my own home and needed the money. But I'd have to be in deep trouble to go that far. I don't like strange people in my home and around me.
Only if one of my kids was in trouble would I consider it in my current situation. But because of my benefit that would get me in trouble...

Have not had a room mate in over 40 years besides my kids & those I was with.. That is trying enough..

But now back when I was 18 worked at a Country Club and had two roommates.. we all got along .. I had come home on break turned my rollers on to do my hair so I could go out after work.. After I got off work I came home opened my bedroom door to find my roommate had used my curlers did not turn them back on and had borrowed the shirt I was going to wear did not even ask..

Another time came in and she had my silk housecoat on, her and her bf were laying on my bed smoking a cig in my room.. At the time I did not smoke and I'm not one to loan my clothes ect to anyone.. Needless to say the next day I went and bought a lock for my bedroom so she could not go in my room anymore..

As much as I have thought of maybe renting out a bedroom in my house.. The last two years with my son living with me has well made me realize I so love my peace and quiet.. whoa slaphead

Heck I'm even trying to get him to go back to work on the pipeline so it will be like a vacation every two weeks for me laugh laugh laugh ..

I was married if that counts

Apart from that the only house mate I've had was at 17. rented a hose rather than a flat with a friend. was a great year

snored like a pig though.

Shortly after I reached my 1st duty station in Norfolk (Little Creek) I roomed with 3 of my squad mates. We got a 2 bedroom duplex just off VA Beach. My monthly bills added up to $85 plus food.

Every payday we would all go together to buy food and alcohol. I've never seen so much alcohol. We would jump in the truck and cruise the strip looking for tail. I've never seen so much tail.

Now when 4 guys live in a 2 bdrm there's two sets of bunk beds. When you combine 4 drunk guys and 4 drunk gals over the weekend and cram them into bunk beds it gets interesting to say the least. We can all get pretty noisy, noisy as drunken sailors get when getting laid. Bunk beds make for some interesting activities.

The worst part was during the week. Usually way too hung over to clean and housekeeping standards go right out the window. Dirty dishes all over the place, clothes all over the place, barf on the ceiling and the entire place smelled like raunchy sex.

On Thursdays, getting ready for the weekend, we all went into overdrive cleaning and prepping. Then we did it all again with 4 different gals from VA Beach. Luckily, the guy living upstairs was cool and hardly ever home on the weekends.

This went on till we deployed. We were young and free and had lots of fun but it had to end. I roomed with 2 different guys when I returned from deployment. A nicer place and they were on shore duty so never deployed. We all had girlfriends and the parties were much more timid and lots less alcohol was involved. We were still slobs but my one roommate was planning to get hitched and constantly complained about everything we did. His gf was there a lot. We did most of our partying up on the roof.

About 8 years ago I roomed with a woman who agreed to half the expenses and half the chores. When she disappeared to NOLA for a month she came back and decided she wasn't going to pay anymore. I put her out 2 days later but I did cart her stuff to a storage unit for her and gave her a ride to the bus stop.
She called a few years later wanting to come back - I said nope and that was that.

Took in two of my best friends. In just over a Month, they filled the back porch with Dirty Diapers Frozen to it from their baby. Dog gave birth to Puppies in the closet and used it as a toilet because they didn't let it outside and didn't clean out the mess. Had to Shove the bedroom door open due to all the Garbage in the bedroom. Destroyed the mattress and carpet. They Used the stove to light a cigarette, then left the stove on...No Flame and filled the house with Gas.. I woke up because my nose was burning.. Lucky I even Woke up. Burnt out the Washer and Dryer from how Filthy their clothes were and doing it everyday for a solid week. Left a Pickup bed full of Garbage and Junk. Left their Cat Behind that was S***ing in the bedroom because they never let it out, then they just up and left, then came back 3 month later to get it. I all ready Killed it and told them it got run over.
I was constantly busy at work and coming home after a 12hr day only to crash in bed. So I didn't see a lot of this because I was Downstairs and they were upstairs. Cost just over a Grand to get the place "Clean" again. Needless to say, Our Friendship Ended there, specially when they Refused to Pay what they owed me in Rent and the Money for Cleaning the place, so roughly $1800.

had a live in girlfriend for three months , who was retired. Being what I am ... picked up all the bills and continued working... but her putting on the Ritz finally got to my very being and her sense of loyalty was lacking .... so i had to ask her to pack it up and leave ..... kinda put me off !! so now I value my independence and freedom even more......till maybe one day i am smitten again .. ha ha!

Omg, I guess life is about learning our boundaries. I am up for full on confronting, seems to get the users and abusers to flee when faced with their nonsensical behaviour. I am not a free ride to someone's laziness or disrespect.

Envious, I would love to live with my 22 year old baby, even though she is more blunt than I am...which borders on offensive lol.

Lol well my son is 38 and due to Covid is why he moved back home after loosing his job..

Ohh don't get me wrong, love having him around but still would like to have my house back to myself at least part of the time is why I'm hoping he goes back to work with the pipeline... lol

But as far as renting a room to someone, naw think I'm over that completely hahahah

Every housemate was the worst housemate.

Edited to add:

As a homeowner, I have no desire for housemates.
This is my space. Everyone else's space is on
the other side of the f#*%@ฮธ' property line.
