.....throw my computer out the window! I have NEVER had this much problems with pop ups EVER. Sure I may get the odd one here and there, but it seems like each and every page I click on I am getting another on.

Anybody know of a good pop up blocker? Using XP with FF as my main browser.

Buy a cleansing program. Sounds like you may have some virus's buried in your hard drive. Best Buy or even Wal Mart has them and they are relitively cheap

Adaware and sptbot are free. They will clean out your computer and should help.

^^Yeah , what she said.^^

You've got spyware/adware !

What kind of spyware/adware protection are you using ?

I suggest adaware from Lavasoft ... http://lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Honestly I do not understand why I am getting them either. AS I said it has never been a bother before. My FF is up to date.

I already use Spybot and Adaware (my boyfriend downloaded this for me). Along with AVG.

It just feels like I am doing nothing but closing these damn block ups.

Have you ran them and deleted the quarantined files out of Adaware?

Yes I have. Just did it last night before I turned off my computer.

I should also mention that my FF has had a tendency to stop responding and close on me as well.

You may need to uninstall and reinstall that FF but I don't use it so I am not sure....flowerforyou

If you've got something stubborn like Virtumonde, it's a real pain to get rid of. I ran many Spyware/Adware scans before I finally got rid of it. Some, like Spybot, will detect it, but then don't get rid of it. Windows Defender(free) was the one that finally worked for me.

Doesn't firefox have a pop-up blocker add-on???

You should try an online virus/spyware scanner. E.g., http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

or

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

BTW, do you keep finding the same problems with Ad-Aware, etc? If yes, you might try looking up that specific malware and the fix for it.

You will find the sleazier the site the more pop ups.

(There is, however, a way to make a pop up appear that will not be caught by a pop up blocker.)

You may have encounter this. Pay attention to the kinds of sites you are going to and avoid them. bigsmile

hello whispertoascream,

Since you use FF you might, if you haven't already, install and use the AdBlock plug-in:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10

Some info about the plug-in itself:

http://adblock.mozdev.org/

Like others have mentioned it sounds like somewhere along the line you have gotten infected with some malware. I highly recommend Ad-Aware, AVG Anti-Spy, Spybot S&D, and possibly HiJack This! For rooting it out.

A common method for getting infected with malware is to visit porn and warez sites, but they also can be bundled with many types of freeware programs. A good rule of thumb is to *always* scan a freeware executable or set of files with your AV software prior to extracting and installing.

Best of luck to you! :)

ZoneAlarm personal blocks them, I think.

Spybot Seach and Destroy is a free one that should kill most things....What are you running for antivirus or spyware now?
