The woman was able to break free again, escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, and they called police, authorities said. Strauss-Kahn bolted the hotel room, leaving behind his cell phone, police told the AP.

The NYPD learned Strauss-Kahn was on a plane bound for France and asked officers with the Port Authority of New York to board the plane and remove him.

At 4:40 p.m., about 10 minutes before Air France Flight 23 was to take off Saturday, officers with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey removed Strauss-Kahn, authorities said. They did not handcuff him. They then turned him over to the police.

An economist and lawyer who has gained prominence while leading the IMF through one of the world’s worst financial crises, Strauss-Kahn joined the organization in 2007 with the support of the United States and many European nations.

He previously served as France’s finance minister and is the subject of intense speculation in France on whether he will declare his candidacy for president as a member of the Socialist Party. He unsuccessfully ran for his party’s nomination in the last election.

At the IMF, Strauss-Kahn has overseen a number of crucial emergency loan packages for troubled economies, most recently for Greece and Pakistan.

The organization also is being eyed to help orchestrate potential bailouts for Portugal and Ireland as Europe suffers a painful debt crisis. And it is working to help Egypt as that country tries to stabilize its economy in the post-Hosni Mubarak era.

“This sordid episode — no matter how it ultimately plays out — will spell the end of Strauss-Kahn as an effective leader of the IMF even if he retains his position, which is highly unlikely,” said Eswar Shanker Prasad, an international economics professor at Cornell University. “With Strauss-Kahn’s departure, the IMF can no longer be counted on to watch Europe’s back as it becomes increasingly clear that the EU-IMF program in Greece is not working.”

Prasad added, “Additional uncertainty is the last thing that Europe needs right now, but that will be the reality as the IMF absorbs this body blow and reorients itself to a post-Strauss-Kahn era.”

Earlier controversies

Strauss-Kahn, who took over the IMF in 2007 after being nominated by Sarkozy, was involved the following year in a scandal involving an extramarital affair with a woman who headed the fund’s Africa department, and who left the IMF under a voluntary retirement plan. The bank’s board, after considering whether Strauss-Kahn was guilty of abuse of authority, reprimanded him for what it called a serious error of judgment but kept him in his job.

His wife, the former television interviewer Anne Sinclair, publicly forgave him for what she described in her blog as a one-night stand.

Sunday, Sinclair expressed disbelief that her husband could have done what he is accused of and called on all to exercise “decency and restraint.”

“I do not believe for one second the accusations brought against my husband,” she said in a statement relayed by Agence France-Presse. “I have no doubt his innocence will be established.”

Cheating is a severe sign of things gone awfully wrong a while ago before it happened. Failure of both, one can't satisfy the other, while the other refuse to speak up about it.

So how do you all feel about independence when in a relationship. Are you there 24/7 for your significant other .

I could never do that. There is no way I would want her hanging in my neck all the time, neither I expect her wanting me the same.

I would run and then jump into a cliff screaming "please leave me alone for minute!"

All the way to Ohio?

I got a apple Mac laptop for Christmas & I have 3 window computers I use them all for different things .......just wondering what do you prefer?

I think Apple computers are unnecessarily too expensive, but there is no denial, they are quite reliable.

It's great for people, who are sick of Windows and don't want Linux and like simplicity.
On the other hand the Apple OS is actually based on the Linux OS as well.

Where are those 9-10 people the graph shows for 2010???? Which "world" are they walking on right now? Because I'm sure as hell there are no Moon missions going on.

Oh, nevermind, I get it. It's the same astronauts, who are still alive today and been on the Moon.

In general, women like the idea of me, but they come up with the rest of me in their fantasies. They are 99.9% wrong. Later on they get to know the real me and suddenly I crush their fantasy world because I turn out to have a different personality than their fantasy man and they back off.

This happened a few times already. So I would guess, what women want out of a man only exists in their fantasy world.

I saw a website selling laptops or netbooks with the android OS on them.

I'm very curious about this thing, although saying that "there is nothing installed on your PC and everything is on the web" scares me.
What if I want to edit documents, photos etc and a storm knocked out the cable or I miss a few payments and they pull my net connection?

I'm 215lbs.. nobody believes me until I step on the scale right front of them everyone guesses far less. I have dated women less than half of my weight and significantly shorter as well. I have also dated taller than me, not sure about if they were heavier than me or not.

Absolutely not.

I used to be big time. Women killed it out of me.
The whole thing just seem like a hoaky shallow game now.
It's the worst when it's all for nothing and there is no appreciation back.

Would you date or be in a relationship with someone who had a secret that they didn't want you to know about? Let's say this is an honest and faithful person, but they tell you they have a secret they can't tell you about. What would you do?

Been there. Told me her "secret" on the day of the break up.

This was a few years ago.

She was never "properly" divorced, her husband was gone somewhere nobody knew, but the reason she didn't file, because she was using his last name on various credit cards etc.

Imagine, that's after 5 months of dating! I kinda picked up on it after a few weeks, and I kinda felt, that it isn't gonna work out.

That's how easy to destroy a relationship early on. Uncertainty, lack of trust and dishonesty.

I wonder how many people here know, that Bin Laden used to be a CIA "asset" during the Afghan-Soviet war in the 80s. He and Al-Quada was secretly backed by the US Government to conduct guerilla war against the Soviets.
After the Soviets pulled out, he became sort of like a Frankeinstein monster of USA. Armed and even though cut off, he looked at USA as his next target.

Interestingly, same thing with Saddam, Donald Rumsfeld used to make deals with him back in the 80s.

There is long list of rebels and extremists in the Middle East, used to be "assets" and "useful tools", who were used one way or another as a negotiation tool at one time, later turned on their former master.

The single largest increase was among Hispanics, whose birthrates are far above those of non-Hispanic whites, largely because the white population is aging and proportionally has fewer women in their child-bearing years. The median age of whites is 41, compared with 27 for Hispanics, the report said.

It seems like everybody missed that part. Whites are doing it to themselves. Same thing going on in Europe too.

What if he isn't dead? Kinda like weapons of mass destruction that were never found...?

Well then, it's just gonna be like before. Like last Monday. Rainy, with spots of thunderstorms and the Earth continues to rotate around the Sun.
