Topic: Why do you judge by looks?

Im not saying that all women on this site do it, but I can say that from my experience I have seen it to many times, a woman says she is looking for "the nice caring sensitive guy" and then when you give them that they either realise they don't want that or are just scared off by your hideous looks, why? same goes for guys really to be fair, if you want a girl who would treat you right and not cheat on you... why do you go for looks first, if a girl is "ugly" or "fat" you just blow her off... How is anything dating wise supose to work in a screwed up world like that...

I don't judge by looks. I think it's definitely what's on the inside that counts! flowerforyou

Looks are the first thing you see. Then comes the hard part.

i used to pride myself on not judging people by how they looked.

then i thought of this scenario:

you are exiting a bar late in the evening and the street is quiet and somewhat deserted.

you're making your way to the parking lot and on one side of the street there are two well-dressed, suit wearing, clean shaven men walking with briefcases.

on the other side of the street there are gangster-type teenagers, rowdy, smoking and cussing.

on which side of the street do you walk?

~~~~
i realized that most of us probably DO make judgements based on how people look.
that doesn't necessarily mean that we wouldn't befriend someone, or even date them, if they didn't fall into our pre-determined set of criteria, but a judgement is still made.
It's call law of attraction, dude.
I think it's safe to assume YOU wouldn't bed down a chick YOU were not physically attracted to, right?
Alot of people care who they want to be seen with... but I think its about what you feel in the heart that counts...looks are just a bonus.
You are going to see a whole lot of responses along the lines of " I don't go by looks "...
Well...as much as people hate to admit it, because it would SEEM to indicate a certain amount of shallowness, looks do indeed play a part in who someone will take the time to get to know.
For someone to even want to get to know someone of the opposite sex, there absolutely has to be something that attracts them to that person in the first place.
That does not mean that people are shallow. It is just the way it is.
So the point I guess im trying to get across and confirm in my head is that people will always pre judge you because of basic instinct and no matter what they think when they say "I just want a nice guy/girl" Really what they are saying is I want someone who is attractive, then I'll care about the other stuff, again just my opinion
I think there is a prevailing fear that people have of being labeled shallow and superficial.
In order to avoid that perception, they say the things they think they're "supposed" to say -- the blah blah PC claptrap about "looks don't matter, it's what's on the inside that counts," and so on.
But since looks DO matter (only they can't let anybody know that), they never actually start anything with anybody.
It's all about the perception, not the reality.
Look around long enough, and you'll see post after post after post proclaiming "I want someone smart" or "I want someone funny" or "I want someone who will take the time to get to know me."
And the place is full of people like that -- but nobody's interested.
If people were really serious about what they claimed to want, we'd have matches left and right, matches all over the place.
But....
It's not too difficult to sort out what's really going on....
why would i date someone that im not physiaclly attracted to? That is just setting myself up for a failed relationship. Why is it that you feel attraction means that the person has to have mental flaws? you can find someone thats attractive and nice, why settle?
