"This was well planned.." SR

I suppose they had a lot of time on their hands ...

Clearly it was well executed.

If they had outside help, it can't have been very good, if the help couldn't even leave a few bicycles for them.

PS
NBC-TV News suggests Joyce Mitchell, who works in the prison tailor shop where both escapees had jobs.

The police call her a "person of interest".
She's suspected of being their inside help.

AND

She may have been their get-away driver.

BUT !!

Mitchell was hospitalized with a panic attack, and so was not present for her get-away driver function; leaving the pair to flee on foot.

The accusations against Mitchell are speculative at this point.
But this possible scenario NBC presents seems consistent with events.

In conditions of extreme sleep deprivation, adrenalin can compensate for the deficit for 5, perhaps 10 seconds at a time.
But not for 48 hours.
The police can sleep in shifts.
The escapees can't.

So the escapees have a choice:
- push it to their physical limit, at risk of their rational judgement, or
- try to find some place to get a few hours rest.

BUT !!

When hyper-exhausted as they'd be if they covered the ~35 miles from prison to Willsboro, they'd have had to have expended a lot of energy; an exertion sedentary prisoners would be unprepared for.

Their stamina is failing.
Hunger is taking its toll.
Sleep deprivation is severely clouding their decision making.

Even if it's the Keystone COPs after them, they should be caught in a few days.

If not; something else is wrong.

Civilian Worker at New York Prison Is Questioned About Escaped Convicts
State corrections officers in Dannemora, N.Y., on Wednesday searching for the escapees. The decision to return to the area was not a result of any new leads, the State Police said.
JACOB HANNAH FOR THE NEW YORK TIMES
By WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM and BENJAMIN MUELLER
JUNE 10, 2015
New York State officials said on Wednesday that a civilian employee of the prison from which two convicted killers escaped over the weekend was being questioned in connection with the breakout.
The employee, Joyce Mitchell, worked in a tailor shop at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. She is believed to have aided the escapees, Richard W. Matt and David Sweat, and was expected to face charges soon, a person with knowledge of the matter said.
Ms. Mitchell “befriended the inmates and may have had some sort of role in assisting them,” Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico of the New York State Police said. He declined to give further details.
Superintendent D’Amico spoke at a news conference along with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York, Gov. Peter Shumlin of Vermont and other law enforcement officials to discuss the latest developments in the continuing search for the two men.
“We have information that would suggest that Vermont was discussed as a possible location,” Mr. Cuomo said, describing a collaboration between law enforcement officials from both states along the border. Clinton Correctional Facility, New York’s largest prison, is about 20 miles from Vermont.
The new information about their possible whereabouts emerged as investigators continued to comb Dannemora and Willsboro, a town about 35 miles southeast.
The escape occurred sometime late Friday or early Saturday, when the two inmates cut through their cell walls and into a two-foot pipe to emerge from a manhole onto the streets of Dannemora. The men were serving lengthy terms for murder.
Investigators say they believe Ms. Mitchell helped the men break free, but failed to follow through with the last part of the plan and did not meet them after they crawled through pipes to escape from the maximum security penitentiary.
The person with knowledge of the matter said Ms. Mitchell made statements that were sufficient to result in her being indicted in connection with the escape.
Instead of meeting Mr. Matt and Mr. Sweat with a getaway car, the person said, Ms. Mitchell sought treatment for a panic attack.
The person said Ms. Mitchell “had a panic attack and obviously got cold feet and went to the hospital.”
“The D.A. is working it already,” the person added, referring to what was a pending case against Ms. Mitchell.

They are probably in Maryland now.surprised

Well, no matter if they were convicted, they have proven above average intelligence & resourcefulness (& REAL survival skills), so Baltimore Maryland, would be out of the question.
They may have personalities that would allow them to fit right in... but they would be spotted & identified within minutes.

I know of 3, with slight spelling variations. All European but spelling differences for area.
1- 68 yrs old, living as a Euro psychiatrist,(who was or worked for the mass murder)
2- An American child molester (most living in plain sight, 80% are related to victim)
3- " Niko ", Denver Colorado crime family

I assume you mean the latter ?

ABC-TV news reports police dogs have picked up strong scent of where the pair may have slept; at a site just a few miles from the prison.

I wonder if those that insisted they saw the escapees ~35 miles from the prison will be prosecuted for a false report to police.
After all, as a result of their report, hundreds of COPs spent way too much time searching where the escapees were not, at the cost of many $tens of $thousands of $dollars.
