"If you go there with the14 th amendment... you may loose your crime solvers." S2

So be it.
Doesn't their oath of office oblige them to fidelity to law?

If so, the supremacy clause (6. 2.) seals the deal.

If they would perjure their oath, they don't belong in that job.

And what rational reason would they think they're entitled to different treatment under law than those they're sworn to "preserve, protect, defend"?

Apart from that I'm not in the least convinced capital punishment is more severe than life behind bars.

I suspect eternal bliss * would be substantially better than having to wade through the human cesspool of gen. pop.

Wow.. we really have different views on the death penalty. Because I am not looking at it as punishment or torture etc.. indifferent
But, rather ridding society, setting an example, economics, over crowding, & a waste of time, energy, manpower. * Surprised ? laugh . But this is s topic for another thread *

At the time of their escape, Matt and Sweat were housed next to each other on the prison's honor block, which awarded inmates who showed good behavior special privileges such as having hot plates and refrigerators in their cells.

Matt, 48, and Sweat, 35, cut holes through steel cell walls, then shimmied along catwalks and through pipes before emerging from a manhole outside the prison gates and disappearing June 6.

Accused of helping the fugitives by supplying the blades, chisels, a punch and a drill bit, Mitchell is in jail and has pleaded not guilty. Her attorney did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections said Tuesday there were "a number of ongoing probes" into how the pair escaped, but she wouldn't comment on the details of those investigations.

Brilliant and so F'n KISS; a cell rotation every month would have put a stop to this entire escape/drama/budget busting cost and WOW, wouldn't that have been a true eye-opener for those prison official's shocked

I agree, lazy but also cocky. And a bit too sure of themselves, ' handling ' the prison & the whole town (Little Siberia), their own way.... for decades.
Despite the fact, that it is a MAXIMIUM Security Prison, full of killer's with escape histories.

How they use terms like "cooperative" & " honor "... I just can't fathom.

No, I'm starting to think either Bigfoot got them or an alien craft picked them up.

A little past noon a New York State Police spokesman, and a captain from the Forest Rangers had a news conference in Cadyville, NY.

Not much news except:
it was suggested the search is 24/7 to prevent one or both from sleeping (it's not known whether they split up or not).

They found a bloody sock, but State Police say that could just be a blister.

There may be one or more firearms missing from one or more of the buildings in the manhunt.

Because the 'good ole boys' that own those backward hunting cabins {that don't bother to lock them up or keep their weapons in gun safes} have been announcing on the media outlets --- "ya, most of those secluded cabins are just left unlocked and stocked for the next hunting season" --- slaphead

Perhaps the 'limping one' will get a nice staff infection/gang-green will set in and he'll die from that blood infectious problem and they'll find his rotting corpse and be able to identify him! #1 down and 1 left to discover! Prayers being said~~~

I did find the latest CNN link, which states, that the cabin was broken into.
I don't see any LEGAL or MORAL culpabilities , against the cabin owner, whom ever they may be.

This is what I heard on NPR: and there wasn't any comment made about 'breaking into' the cabin ??? So that may or may not have been accurate on the report that I heard.

Terry Bellinger, owner of nearby Belly's Mountain View Inn, said the hunter told him he saw a man run into the woods as he approached the camp Saturday on an ATV. When the hunter went into the cabin, he noticed two things out of place: a jug of water and an open jar of peanut butter on a table. Bellinger said the hunter went to his restaurant, where he talked to police for several hours.

"He was visibly shaken. He wanted a glass of water," Bellinger said.

But as a gun owner and my 'GUN SAFE'...I've always had issues with the lackadaisical way that others leave their weapons out of a 'GUN SAFE'; I didn't say that they {the cabin owners} were doing anything immoral or illegal!!!

Just posting my frustration about the criminal element obtaining access to weapons and now the danger is lifted up considerably for all those living in that region. UGHHHHH

"I didn't say that they {the cabin owners} were doing anything immoral or illegal!!!" 2A

Economically, if these hunters could afford a palace on the savannah, they'd probably have one.

These "hunting camps" are little more than wood shacks.
And the sad economic fact is:

a) They seldom lock them, because they know if anyone wants in, they'll break in.

b) A gun safe could cost more than the guns inside it.

c) I'm not sure "immoral or illegal!!!" is the highest standard here; and may be more like the lowest.
There are matters of ethics, and safety to the community.

I've got a .22 I use for both small game, and varmint hunting (I shoot porcupines on sight). When it is not in my custody, it is behind 3 doors with locks on each.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — A maximum-security prison guard who delivered frozen meat with tools hidden inside to two inmates before they escaped was arrested on Wednesday.

But correction officer Gene Palmer had no knowledge any contraband was inside the meat he gave to the two convicted killers, his lawyer said.

"He did pass the hamburger meat. He shouldn't have done it. He apologized for it," said defense lawyer Andrew Brockway, who insisted Palmer didn't know the inmates were trying to escape.

Palmer appeared before a judge in Plattsburgh on Wednesday night to face charges of promoting prison contraband, tampering with physical evidence and official misconduct. He was held on $25,000 bail pending arraignment Thursday. He will plead not guilty, his attorney said.

Palmer worked at the Clinton County Correctional Facility in upstate Dannemora, where inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt were reported missing on June 6.

Sweat, 35, was serving a life sentence without parole in the killing of a sheriff's deputy. Matt, 48, was doing 25 years to life in the kidnapping, torture and hacksaw dismemberment of his former boss. Authorities say the inmates cut through the steel wall at the back of their cells, crawled down a catwalk, broke through a brick wall, cut their way into and out of a steam pipe and then sliced through the chain and lock on a manhole cover outside the prison.

Prison employee Joyce Mitchell also has been charged with helping them escape. Mitchell, a prison tailor shop instructor, has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody.

Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said Mitchell told investigators she smuggled hacksaw blades, a screwdriver and other tools into the prison by placing them in the frozen hamburger meat. He said she then placed the meat in a refrigerator in the tailor shop and Palmer took the meat to Sweat and Matt, who were housed in a section where inmates are allowed to cook their own meals. The district attorney said the guard didn't know the tools were inside the meat.

Brockway said Palmer continues to cooperate with investigators who are trying to track down the fugitives.

"He understands this is a public emergency, and any information that he has he will give to authorities to help capture Mr. Sweat and Mr. Matt," Brockway said.

Palmer had been placed on leave on Tuesday. At the time, his attorney told television station WPTZ he was completely forthcoming during several hours of questioning on Saturday.

"I can 100 percent confirm that he did not know they were planning on breaking out of the prison," Brockway said.

Searchers hunting for the escaped killers Wednesday were contending with steep slopes, thick woods, sticky bogs, biting bugs and the possibility that the pair on the lam from prison for 19 days is armed.

Police said they remain almost 100 percent certain that Sweat and Matt spent time recently at a hunting camp about 20 miles west of the correctional facility near Owls Head. A hunter said he saw a figure bolting from the cabin on Saturday morning. But after days of intense searching with dogs and helicopters, police still had no substantiated sightings of Sweat and Matt.

The 75 square miles searchers focused on is on the northern edge of the sprawling Adirondack Park and includes woods so thick that visibility is only a few feet in some sections, authorities said. The woods also are dotted with hundreds of seasonal and hunting camps.

State police Maj. Charles Guess said Wednesday authorities don't have confirmed evidence a shotgun was stolen from the hunting cabin near Owls Head but they've always assumed the escapees were armed. Weapons and ammunition are typically stored in camps, but not everyone keeps an inventory, he said.

"Just about every cabin or outbuilding in the North Country has one or more shotguns or weapons, and we have since Day 1 operated under the belief that these men are armed," Guess said. "They are extremely dangerous, they're cunning. Why wouldn't they try to arm themselves immediately upon escape?"

Guess said it was possible the pair left the area, but he promised that the more than 1,000 officers involved would keep up the relentless search until the killers are captured.

"We don't want them to have a restful, peaceful night putting their head on any pillow," he said.

What the &^%$ are convicted murderers in an ostensible high security prison supposed to do with "frozen meat"?!

Take it to the kitchenette in their cell, thaw it in the microwave, and then saut it w/ shallots & garlic?

I know it is infuriating ! explode
The media wants drama & I want justice.
I don't believe the authorities are any closer to finding these maniacs than they were 17 days ago. * the day they were discovered missing *
Even all the ' alleged evidence & sightings ' Is just that... alleged..

The prison employees, the Warden... I hope the authorites, leave no stone unturned & that everyone is replaced & that they throw the book at them.
Perhaps even close the prison down.
Let that town die.
Calling this a scandal is an under statement. And I hope the public realizes how CONNECTED that whole prison system is to political parties.

Baffling.
What is the scenario that makes a prison employee giving frozen meat to prisoners?!
- Where?
- When?
- Why?

I want public safety.
I've already been to neighbor's house with print-out, to warn her.
"Even all the ' alleged evidence & sightings ' Is just that... alleged.." S2

Except they claim they've found their DNA.
That may not give them a date & time. But it's overwhelmingly likely a positive ID.

ONE EXCEPTION: !!

It may be possible that one or more corrupt prison employees or other accomplices planted the DNA evidence, to throw the manhunt off the trail.
BUT !!
Ockham's Razor.
That may be possible.
I consider it unlikely.

The Forest Ranger that spoke at the news conference yesterday listed paragraphs of difficulty in searching for the escapees; terrain, undergrowth, insects, swamps, etc.
Then in the last paragraph added;
and that's why we chose to locate the prison here ...

I get the impression they didn't really think that one through.

As I read that I am thinking... " he must hate cops shows too " laugh
Damn CSI etc.. Smdh. People end up believing police departments have everything at there disposal.

The cabin - it could be planted evidence. It could be teenages or anyone w/ the sock & peanut butter jar. * Isn't the jar LEFT open a little weird to you ? A genius & a masterplaner ... I'm thinking OCD *

Food - I think the Guard & the Tailor became TOO compassionate. And from being there everyday, must of looked at them/ convicts as ' neighbors' ... & may well thought they were ' being nice '
On well ,no excuse. I care what there thinking is, but it does not make me more compassionate, as far as their guilt of impending sentence.

Prison Location- like real state agents say, " location, location, location is everything ".
Strategically it's great. And who wants a maximum security prison in the neighborhood? It is the Warden & the prison board & perhaps the entire community & the politicians that are fault.
Where's the money ? I can't wait to follow the money trail of miss used funds & corruptions & bribes. drool

Bear in mind:
the apparent bumblers responsible for:
- keeping these guys behind bars, (unsuccessful) &

- tracking them down (unsuccessful so far)

are from the same crowd that will handle the investigation.

A federal IG probe might make some sense.
But I assume that'll just add $more $millions to the price tag of this lemon.

And why is the warden still employed?!

They will smack each other on the hand, Pat each other on the back & line each others pockets .
It is not like the good old days, when an old fashion scandal meant something.... like disgrace.
Now, everyone has an excuse & everyone makes a confession & everyone else is supposed to except it & tell them, how ' brave ' they are for doing so.
