Recent reports indicate the manhunt is costing ~$1,000,000.oo / day.
Recent rains have allegedly rendered the use of bloodhounds & thermal imaging ineffective.

Dem guys is gone.

Still gone.

Question.

Ms Mitchell faces 8 years in prison.

Shouldn't the punishment fit the crime?

She's cost the NY tax payer over $8,000,000.oo so far.

AND

placed us at needless additional mortal risk by freeing two murderers.

Why only 8 years?

Idk....but Id guess because of preliminary charges, just to get her held for now.....maybe more are coming.

Let's hope that's it RA.
She seems like a real dirt-ball:

- She buddies up with two convicted murderers
- helps them escape from a high security prison
- and tells them, while you're out, would you bump off my husband?

What a waste of food!

I knew, that given the history of Richard Matt & Judy Mitchell helping him & David Sweat escape, that there was the distinct possibility that Matt & Mitchell had an affair.
But I am surprised she plotted with Matt & Sweat to kill her husband.
How mesmerizing can this psychopath Matt be ? How unhappy could Mitchell have been with her husband?
She was a working woman, over 50, she could of easily left him.

The ONLY good thing, I see in this whole 'psycho drama', is that Judy Mitchell had a moment of clarity or spiritually or conscious & warned her husband.
Geez, no wonder she had a panic attack & drove herself to the hospital instead of meeting up with the convicts.
So she endangered her husbands life & gives hers up. by turning herself in to save it.

DAY 13,

NOTHING NEW
(in 22 hours) :grumble

Mind Blowing - I just can't fathom - or know what life up there would be like; jumping at any small noise - not knowing if it's safe to venture outside to just do daily chores - shop - go any where!noway

And I live in a very rural area - our county is the 5th largest in the state of KS - way too many places to hideout! scared

"NOTHING NEW" S2

Apparently this isn't a story anymore S2.

They might let us know if the pair is caught or killed. Other than that ... ?

I had two TV's and the radio on over the six o'clock hour.
None of them mentioned it.

So the most recent report,
they're searching closer to the prison now.
"way too many places to hideout!" 2A

Or hide "in"?

The peril of prepositions!

(Reuters) - A daring escape by two convicted murderers from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, has thrust the prison's superintendent, Steven Racette, into the spotlight as officials examine conditions surrounding the June 6 breakout.

Hundreds of law enforcement officials have joined the hunt for the men who escaped, but investigators have also turned their attention to conditions inside the prison before and during the breakout, including a look at Racette's management of the facility.

Authorities have charged a female prison worker with smuggling hacksaw blades to the inmates, who cut through steel walls, squeezed through a steam pipe and emerged from a manhole outside the maximum security prison's walls.

At some point, the county prosecutor said, Joyce Mitchell, 51, who worked in the prison tailor shop, discussed plans with the inmates, David Sweat, 35, and Richard Matt, 48, to murder her husband, who also works at the prison.

How all of this went undetected at New York's largest prison is under investigation by the state's inspector general, which has the authority to seize documents and question witnesses, including Racette.

"The question that will have to be asked is, 'To what extent was he literally superintending the operation of the prison?'" said Martin Horn, a former prison official in New York City and Pennsylvania who now lectures at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

"Were there things that he knew but failed to act on, or didn't know but should have known? Was he diligently insuring that the requisite procedures were in place, and were being adhered to?"

Racette declined to be interviewed.

The manhunt in its 13th day on Thursday had expanded beyond the immediate vicinity of the prison located about 20 miles (32 km) south of the Canadian border, and even included the U.S. Marshall's Service working along the border with Mexico, where Matt fled in a previous escape.

One of Racette's decisions sure to be examined involved an earlier complaint by a co-worker of Mitchell about her relationship with Sweat. An investigation turned up insufficient evidence to bring charges, but the two were separated for a period of time.

The inspector general's office declined to comment on the specifics of its investigation into Clinton.

Racette's prison has a reputation as one of the state's most brutal, where guards physically attack and racially harass inmates, according to a 2014 report by the prisoner advocacy group Correctional Association of New York.

"The prison administration does not take sufficient action to prevent staff abuse," the report on Clinton found.

The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association declined to comment on the report or about Racette's career.

Investigations into other prison escapes, including recent breakouts in Ohio and Pennsylvania, resulted in top administrators being disciplined. But in some cases, investigators found the prison's lead administrator took every measure expected to prevent an escape and should be cleared of wrongdoing.

'A STRAIGHT SHOOTER'

Saranac Lake Mayor Clyde Rabideau, who has known Racette since the seventh grade, described him as a "straight shooter" who commands a "tremendous amount of respect."

"He's a consummate professional," said Rabideau. "Every minute of his life is dedicated to his profession."

Married with two adult sons, Racette has a degree from Plattsburgh State University and graduated from New York State Ranger School in 1976. In February he was crowned "king" of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival's Royal Court, a title that typically recognizes civic duty, said a family friend who declined to be named.

The son of a prison superintendent, Racette has worked in the prison system since 1979, when he started as a correction officer trainee, rising through the ranks to superintendent in 2010.

His salary is $132,040, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Clinton is among 10 upstate prisons where Racette has worked, including Great Meadow, Elmira, Upstate, Franklin, Riverview, Watertown, Adirondack and Coxsackie and the former Camp Gabriels.

New York Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott has promised that the top-to-bottom review of Clinton will "follow the evidence wherever it leads."

The Warden & the Prison is under investigation.
The prison has a horrible record of abuse & racism which has been documented & reported by HUMAN Rights groups. But nothing was done.
NOW that there has been an escape & the murders have NOT been found & the whole WORLD knows...
NOW, they are looking into it.

And living quarters for " HONOR INMATES " ( yes that is what they are referred to for a long record of GOOD behavior, grumble ), has been shut down. And they also lost many privileges.

BUT - None of this helps the PUBLIC or keeps us safer.
* Both Matt & Sweat lived & worked in these HONOR quarters *

"And living quarters for " HONOR INMATES " has been shut down." S2

If I understand the reports of it, power-tools were used in the escape.
How could an entire cell-block not have heard any of that?

I don't endorse punishing the victim, punishing the innocent for the sins of the guilty.

AND

I fully recognize the benefit to the whole People to reward consistent good behavior by prisoners.
But granting special privilege to wear non-prison clothing goes too far.

I hope, for the benefit of the tax payer granting trivial privilege to obedient prisoners is continued.
A colossal blunder punitive taskmasters continue to make is taking away so much from such prisoners leaves prisoner custodians no maneuver room, to punish bad behavior.
"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose." Kris Kristofferson

I understand the penalty of being a "stoolie" in prison.
But there should be rules to defend such informants, even if it means moving the informant to "Club Fed" as a reward.

* HEADS UP PENNSYLVANIA*

New York State Police are investigating possible sightings of two convicted murderers who escaped an upstate prison two weeks ago.

Police said Friday the men who may fit the description of Richard Matt and David Sweat were SEEN last weekend in Steuben County, New York, about 300 miles southwest of the maximum security prison from which they escaped. They were seen last Saturday walking near the Gang Mills rail yard in Erwin and seen the next day in Lindley heading for the Pennsylvania border.

Investigators conducted interviews in both communities and also obtained surveillance video of the two men that turned out to be inconclusive. Police said it was sent to Albany for additional analysis.

The convicts used power tools to cut through the back of their adjacent cells on June 6, broke through a brick wall, then cut into a steam pipe and slithered through it, finally emerging outside the prison walls through a manhole, authorities said.

Matt was serving 25 years to life in prison after he kidnapped and beat a man to death in 1997. Sweat was serving a life sentence after he was convicted of killing a Broome County sheriff's deputy in 2002.

Joyce Mitchell, who worked at the prison's tailor shop, was charged with helping the two escape. She has pleaded not guilty.

Earlier Friday, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced that a correction officer was placed on administrative LEAVE as part of the investigation surrounding the men's escape. NO additional details have been disclosed.

300 miles in 2 weeks is over 20 miles a day.

That's not too tough a schedule for a well rested person with a bulging wallet, who can stop an any Greasy Spoon along the way to strap on the feed-bag, or shower, etc.

BUT!!

If you're dumpster diving for scraps, supplementing your diet with worms, and staying off major roads so as not to be identified; bushwhacking at over 20 miles a day is a respectable athletic accomplishment.

Sustaining that pace for two weeks, without so much as a warm bed?

Count me a skeptic.

PS

Subsequent report indicates the sighting was a week ago.
That increases it to 40 miles a day, that's over 3 miles an hour (a brisk walk) for 12 hours a day.

- or -

stealing bicycles
car-jacking
car theft
train-hopping
etc.
"When the picture doesn't make any sense, a piece of the puzzle is missing." psychologist Joy Browne

Perhaps it's remotely possible these are two exceptionally talented individuals.
One report I saw suggested one of them was a skilled graphic artist, that did commercial grade shaded pencil sketch portraits.

Still can't tell if they're outsmarting the police, or if the police couldn't find their own butts in the shower.

LT - I'm not buying today's news either.

If they were (possiblibly) spotted a week ago, WHY didn't we hear it? Why weren't people alerted ?
What do they mean, the photos
or video footage is inconclusive?
*Not this day & age *

And the prison guard/ prison employee, that was fired/put on leave/suspended, last week- why didn't we hear that last week?

Why, aren't we hearing about the Warden & the prison investigation?
Why aren't we hearing more about the town?

Why are they still going on & on about Judy Mitchell? She turned herself in, corporated fully & is in JAIL.. unlike the Cop Killer & Murder-Dismemberment. (& maybe the Warden & his men). ?

Why was it only CBS reporting it this morning? * Didn't they get the HUSH MEMO. laugh *

WHY? IMO- because sex sells & keeping the attention on this woman & blaming her, takes the focus off of them..... Oh look.. a squirrel.. rofl

I turned 60 last year S2.
One of the most important lessons I've learned about human nature, and understanding is:
When Bruce sees Sally's conduct, doesn't understand it, and concludes:
- I Bruce don't understand it, therefore Sally's an idiot. -
generally it's Bruce that's the idiot.

This entire charade seems to be a botch from the start.

- How was Mitchell even able to pass the psych. qual. for employment in prison?
- Why was she allowed the kind of access necessary for her to cooperate with the prisoners as she did?
- How could the power tool use be conducted without any C.O. noticing? I'd definitely want that one looked into. Heads should ROLL on that one! And if the prison isn't doing periodic* bed checks, they should be.
- And I agree, the reporting has been bizarre; disclosing details that should not be; and omitting details that should be included.

If I may add to this ramble:
On the Jon Benet Ramsey's murder:
despite the fact a detective on the case said into the camera:
we're continuing the investigation, we're examining the evidence, we're narrowing down the suspects, and soon our investigation will lead to you (the murderer).
The murderer was never caught.

A few days into this manhunt, a State Trooper made a similar statement:
we will catch these guys.

In both cases, it seems like desperation to me.

I'm disinclined to simply assume - therefore Sally's an idiot. -
But at this point, it seems to me the security workers at this ostensibly high security NY prison, and the commanders running the manhunt are as sharp as bowling balls.

* hourly may be excessive; random would be more useful; at unpredictable intervals a few times each night; but at least with an open microphone on each cell block; if not a C.O. on station
