Can you name any type of personal/social relationship that at some point, somewhere, doesn't have similarities to every other type of personal/social relationship?


Anymore, people approach relationships little differently than they approach food, IMO, (that's what happens when you separate sex from procreation and make sex a means to pleasure or self actualization rather than simply a cog in a natural process).

Lots of people try to come up with their own recipe for what tastes best, with the least amount of effort or cost, providing the most nutrition or at least provides the greatest "full" feeling.

Just as you can come up with vegan, paleo, south beach, atkins, ketogenic, mediterranean, fast food, junk food, vegetarian, fruitarian, you can come up with all sorts of relationship "diet" words.



I have a feeling that with the huge jump towards over reliance on technology these are going to be the standard.

I mean parents are having fewer children. Middle class to upper class, 1 to 2 kids.
Small families.
People would rather text small numbers of friends than focus on driving. Addicted to highly impersonal means of communication.

Human beings are social animals.
They absolutely need close, intimate groups and communities.

If nothing else is providing it (no big families, childhood friends are only on screens, mcmansion houses with private back yards, or huge plots of land distanced from neighbors), the only means of obtaining the minimum emotional and social support that human beings need at a basic fundamental level is going to be people building their own relationship clans, frankensteined small societies to get what they've been missing.

The only thing that offers sufficient motivation to build those from scratch is pursuit of sexual gratification (you don't read a lot of forum threads whining "why don't older/younger men/women want to be just friends, why do they always want sex? I met my best friend online and they moved to another country just to be close and be my platonic friend").

Or heroin.

Maybe that's the future.

There may be some overlap in what you do, as in sex with more than one person, but the feelings and intentions behind it are somewhat different ...
