What are some phrases people commonly say that make your blood boil? |

The larger issue is not accepting others peoples rights to their feelings without having to have them discounted, ignored, rationalized or any other way of denying them their expression as each persons feelings are genuine and not to be challenged...

I do agree that people have their rights to their feelings , and I definitely try to honor that, but if those feelings are expressed in an insulting way, it may very well trigger an undesirable visceral verbàl reaction and people have to be prepared for that side of the coin as well :) |

I usually stop and reassess myself to see if I am letting my emotions control me. The larger issue is not accepting others peoples rights to their feelings without having to have them discounted, ignored, rationalized or any other way of denying them their expression as each persons feelings are genuine and not to be challenged... Agree for the most part. If people express genuine feelings and emotions but most do not. Many use emotional outbursts to manipulate. Example...a Temper Tantrum. I have known many adults that still have temper tantrums to get their way. Another is the sob story. Oh, pity me so I can get my way. We all use 'phrases' to express ourselves. The ones that irritate me are the ones that don't fit the situation or the discussion. Those emotionally charged 'left field' phrases that are spouted to try to put you off guard or out of balance. One of the things I hate during an argument is when someone says "You Always". (edited to include "You Never") Especially when it implies something that has no bearing on the argument at all. It is used to redirect focus away from the issue at hand. Recently (in the last few years) I have learned to stay focused on the subject. Those redirecting phrases and ones that are used to manipulate are being used because the person is realizing their error and are not able to admit it. Thus they throw phrases at you to break your chain of thought till they can think up something that in their mind, reinforces their conviction. |

The world needs more level-headed people like you Tom :) And the phrases " you always /never" as you implied, are often inaccurate and infuriating |

i always disliked it when people ask "how are you?", knowing they could really care less about the answer...
just a simple hi is good enough, no need to dramatize the small talk... |

Thats a tough one Moe. Its almost a reflex action for most people followed by a just as reflex action. Although I remember doing an experiment once. After a guy asked me how I was doing, i audibly replied "Im terrible thank you , to which the guy replied "GREAT! Keep it up!"
