Critics of President Obama felt little holiday cheer after the president did not thank God in his Thanksgiving-themed weekly Internet address. They immediately took to Twitter and the Internet to voice anger and disbelief.

"Holy cow! Is that one screwed up or what?" columnist Sherman Frederick of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote in a Thanksgiving-morning blog post.

"Somebody ought to remind Obama (and his speechwriter) that when Americans sit down around a meal today and give thanks, they give thanks to God."

Over on the website of Fox News Radio, radio host Todd Starnes also took issue.

"His remarks were void of any religious references, although Thanksgiving is a holiday traditionally steeped in giving thanks and praise to God," Starnes wrote.

"The president said his family was 'reflecting on how truly lucky we truly are,'" Starnes said. "For many Americans, though, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how blessed and thankful they are."

The popular website of London's Daily Mail has taken the issue global, with a story under the headline "What a Turkey! Outrage as Obama Leaves God Out of His Thanksgiving Address."

Obama mentioned God once in a closing "God bless you," to Americans watching the Internet address. However, the President explicitly thanked God earlier in the week in his written Thanksgiving proclamation, which called the holiday "one of our nation's oldest and most cherished traditions," and an occasion that "brings us closer to our loved ones and invites us to reflect on the blessings that enrich our lives."

"As we gather in our communities and in our homes, around the table or near the hearth, we give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives. Let us pause to recount the simple gifts that sustain us, and resolve to pay them forward in the year to come," Obama wrote.

Ironically, the attacks on Obama came as the Republican White House hopefuls suspended their criticism of the president on Thursday in favor of a unified message of thanks to U.S. service members and their families.

Three of the Republican presidential candidates – Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum – issued Thanksgiving statements that omitted any references to God. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry mentioned God in their statements.

Obama, like his predecessors, records an address each week that focuses on an issue the White House wants to spotlight. The messages are typically posted on the Internet at the start of the weekend, but this week's address – with its Thanksgiving theme – was issued before the holiday.

In this week's address, delivered from the White House, Obama said, "We are especially grateful for the men and women who defend our country overseas," and he said, "We're also grateful for the Americans taking time from their holiday to serve in soup kitchens and shelters."

He acknowledged this Thanksgiving would be "more difficult than most" for many Americans because of the economy, but added, "No matter how tough things are right now, we still give thanks for that most American of blessings, the chance to determine our own destiny."

Thanksgiving is a typically American holiday...The lavish meal is a symbol of the fact that abundant consumption is the result and reward of production.

Joe bless you too buddy! laugh

It is quite a mistake "for a President" of the US tho.

I put no stock in "religion", but it is a priciple the country was founded under. He claims to be "christian", is suspected Muslim ( as his chosen name would imply), and to leave out the recognition of "GOD" on such a holiday......

ALL HAIL KING BARRY! GIVE THANKS TO THE KING FOR YOUR MANY BLESSINGS!

*** The Beatles took a hit once when they were quoted saying they were "more popular than god"....NOT BETTER, JUST MORE POPULAR. It actually was a true statement (taken in context) because they were popular in countries god was not, but western cultures scorned them for it.***

The Dixie Chicks took their hit just for denouncing "'Lil Shrub".... how do you think people will react to this little tidbit?

Thanksgiving has about as much to do with God as the fourth of july

although people can feel free to be grateful to God on any day or holiday

its about AMERICANS and american success,, unlike Christmas which is actually about CHRIST (as the name implies)

I dont think God is particularly more american than he is any other nationality, so I dont get how its so specifically a God celebration that americans have food or independence

,,but I guess they have to keep searching for SOMETHING(no matter how trivial) to be up in arms about,,,

The above videos are just a sampling of Obama being a hypocrite. IF the president welcomes and acknowledges one religion (Muslim) but he is refusing Christians the right to acknowledge their religion then something is very wrong. This is one reason why I hate Obama. He has no transparency like he promised and any "Change" has been all downward.

If our next president separates Church & State then he should do it 100%. As a Christian, I would appreciate our next president to be Christian but his politics are much more important than his religion or lack of it.

"Hate" is a strong and consuming word to use toward another human being.

"Suspect" is has more of a consensus.

Since when is thanking god a requirement? If you'd like to thank god, go for it. You can't force others to do that, though. And it's silly to get upset when they don't.

"Silly to get upset?" Our country became what it was because enough people were "silly to get upset"! You may not have that right too much longer the way things are going but apparently you are one of the Sheeple that won't get upset when you lose your freedom completely.

how quickly and easily they turn

a little more research might temper some of the misplaced 'hatred'

Maybe if thought that God was a turkey it was like he was trying not to be offensive.

Im not sure God needs public acclamation at EVERY holiday,, it becomes just a ritual when that happens anyway

I believe the Obamas probably do plenty of private prayer of their own,, which counts just as much

I did not state that his not mentioning God had anything to do with freedom on Thanksgiving, maybe u should read back what I did type.

I said he was a hypocrit and he is and gave facts to my opinion in the form of videos. He should either acknowledge and allow all religions or none whatsoever is the exact point I was trying to make. You should not have a dinner at the White House for one religion while denying others their ability to do so. There are many other examples of him placating to Muslims while ignoring others

Well, you remember Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird but instead the eagle was chosen. I am glad the turkey wasn't chosen to be the national bird. Most eagles are kind of bony and I like a little meat on my birds.

If Obama had been like the rednecks around here he would have said, "We thank you God for this bottle of Wild Turkey we are about to consume."

Yes, it is silly to get upset about someone not thanking god. It's not a requirement and never should be. You're talking about freedom, yet are upset because the President didn't mention god? Does he not have the same freedom you do? You're welcome to thank god all you want.

Freedom of religion should include freedom from religion. When they are telling the schools and football games that they can't pray to God in Public, how can Obama or any of our Presidents stand up in front of the entire nation and do it?

He is going to get jumped on no matter what he does then right?

If he thanks God in front of the entire nation, then the schools are going to say, then why can't we do the same thing?

It makes perfect sense that he did not thank a "Christian" God in front of a nation filled with many different kinds of religions.

No, people should not be the least bit upset.

If Christians want to be upset, and they feel better about being upset, there is not much anyone can do about it. They are always whining about something.

And people are grasping at straws trying to find things to criticize Obama about.

I say to these people, GET A LIFE.
