how important is it for you that your beliefs be true?
Not nearly as important as being consistent with beliefs, avoiding paying lip service to a belief while behaving contrary to it.

Do we realize that all that we believe may not be really true?
I don't think that realization is nearly as important as figuring out how much you are willing to defend a belief in the face of an opposing opinion or possible proof it's not that true, or how far you're willing to go to try and protect your belief you've proved to yourself to be true from others.

is it better to leave a void in our matrix of paradigms if we cant verify them or is it better to fill the void with something we arent sure about based on reasons

Human beings can't leave a void in our "matrix of paradigms."
They will be filled in subconsciously if not consciously.

Leaving a void creates fear of something unknown. Fear increases stress. People hate stress and naturally avoid it and try to expel it, seeking out ways to get rid of it.

if we have lived our lives to the full, these beliefs dont matter anyway.

There is no living life to the "full."
There's just living life.
If you follow trying to live life to the "full" then you have to define what that means.
That forces you to measure your life in comparison to others, make judgments, and determine if your life is better than that of someone else.
That leads to living life, just not your own. And then you run around wondering why you aren't happy and feeling like you think you should because you did what they did.

In more socialistic or group oriented cultures that's usually fine, but in more individualistic (western) cultures that's just going to lead to all sorts of problems.

Is eternal happiness linked to the beliefs or to the truth in the beliefs?

The idea of eternal happiness is a belief without any real proof it actually exists.
You know anyone that has eternally existed? And they've given you eternal updates to their emotional state?

So you may as well be asking is flabbertymij linked to the beliefs or to the truth in the beliefs?
Sure, whatever you want.

I know false beliefs have been used as dangerous weapons in the past.

So have true beliefs. So have true beliefs that turned into false beliefs due to social and technological change.
So has personal self interest masquerading as a belief.

Pretty much anything a human being can use as a weapon will be used as a weapon to protect themselves. Thoughts, beliefs, ideas, feelings, emotions, tools, whatever.

Your thoughts?

I think if you cut and paste you should provide the source of origin.

When you have "whats" instead of "what's" then it was copied from a different website.

I type out these abstract thoughts when I get inquisitive about life in my notebook and then blog them on forums to get others' feedback.

So, what makes you think its copied?

It seems Reincarnation explains phenomena like Homosexuality, Birth Marks, Unusual Phobias in children, Exceptional Talents in people and some other attributes that science hasn't yet explained.

So, what's your understanding on Reincarnation? Why do we come to life again and again?

i still think a lot of are memory is wiped out of us by are parents
cause a lot of kids remember names , area's , places , etc etc etc that they could have no idea about

i have thought about this many times before

why do we come back
cause we didn't learn the first time
cause we want to experiance life again
cause its fun
the list goes on and on

and yes i agree it does explain a lot but all so leaves a lot of unanswered as well

it runs along those lines of the Que. " why am i here? "

lol here is another off the wall thought for you
you know how bad the world is and all the unthinkable's going on this ball of mud
what if we are all ready in hell and we are working are way out of it ? : )

I agree this world is gradually becoming more and more disorderly...which is again similar to the concept of entropy in thermodynamics, that disorder can only increase in an isolated system.

But, my question is, why is the science fraternity not willing to accept it as a phenomenon and going ahead understanding it?

Someone told me; it's so hard to find and/or date a " W 90 - 60 - 90" in these days...why?

Do they really exist?

They do exist...if you mean the vital stats by the numbers.

The troubling thing about the assumption science is going to answer everything that it doesn't leave room for miracles.

Yes, miracles aren't logical... ! That's why they're miracles.

************************************************************************************************************************************

Anybody figured-out why there's a 515 foot long petrified boat 6300 feet above sea-level yet in the Ararat Mountains ?

'Miracles' as you call them, are not really miracles. People conclude their happenings as miracles as science has not probably been able to put forward explanations for them.

Miracles are slowly decreasing as science is progressing...also, so called 'miracles' of the past, as written in scriptures, may or may not be true. In most of our religious scriptures, myth is so well blended with the truth that it becomes virtually impossible to discern truth from myths.

We have not understood the 'spirit' or the pervading consciousness in the universe, which is why many 'true miracles' couldn't be explained.

I think youre attempting to connect things that arent connected...
Like comparing apples and oranges...

Some oriental religions say, if our Karma is good, our destiny will be good in our next reincarnation...at least this is what Buddha said.

These days you come to see so many innocent people getting brutally killed due to no fault on their part. Does this mean each and every male member in the village who got brutally killed by religions fanatics, actually deserved this because of their past life deeds?

I am confused about Shia, Sunni, Sharia, and Shi'ite....

Can someone shed some light on this...in proper context...

Islam has 2 main sects : Sunni islam which represents the major sect ( it is usually the sect of the jihadi radical organizations ), and Shia sect which represents the minor one ( islam consists of almost 85 % sunni and 15 % shia ) , these tow sects have been in a historical conflict for almost 1400 years , this conflict turned in many cases to be the reason of bloody sectarian wars and massacres where these tow sects are in contact (like Iraq , Pakistan )
Shi'ite is the follower of Shia sect
Sharia , or Shariaa law is the Islamic law based on quraan (islamic holy book ) and what mohammad said during his life ( hadiths )

Knew i could count on you waving ..long time no see.

From what ive been reading up on the matter...sunni seem to be more literal and deliberate in interpreting the contents of the quran, whereas shia is more contextual and adaptive...

actually both sects agree on the same interpreting of the major content of quraan (there are some exceptions though ) , while they disagree on some historical events about who had the right to lead Muslims after Mohammad died , Shia wanted (Ali) Mohammad's cousin to lead Muslims as they believed the leader of Muslims should be one of Mohammad's relatives while Sunna wanted ( Abu Bakr ) one of Mohammads companions to be the leader ... Abu Bakr took the leadership eventually and the conflict have risen since then .

Well yes, historically speaking... But a figurehead can only be as good as the ideas he present, and the acceptability of his ideas.
Im pretty sure there is something/s in muslim doctrine that caused the divide and the continuing escalation of the conflict...especially since it encompasses not only religious rites and traditions but also the politico-legal sentiment...

It had nothing to do with any doctrine. It was a struggle for power...who would take control of the Khalifat and succeed Mohammad to lead the then Islam community.

Is the concept of 'Karma' losing its relevance?

Complex and apparently unpredictable happenings which are highly sensitive to their initial conditions are termed as chaotic systems. Chaotic systems are mathematically deterministic - that is, they follow precise laws but their irregular behaviors appear to be random to a casual observer.
Some chaotic phenomena in the universe are births and deaths of stars, planets, formation of space debris and movement of meteors etc. If we consider our societies, happenings like outbreaks of diseases, growth in populations, heart rhythms, sudden weather changes or even the fluctuations in stock exchange figures may seem to be chaotic. They may not be predictable in the long run, but all have short term predictability.
Now, to an independent observer, our births, lives and deaths are also chaotic. The choices that we make in our lives are based on our thoughts that are molded by an infinite sequence of inheritances of genes from our ancestors and the influence of ever changing surroundings both of which are chaotic phenomena. Also, for any independent system the disorderliness cannot decrease by itself, a thought which is taken from the concept of entropy. Local disorders are fractal images of global ones.
Human lives in the past were relatively simple, secure and predictable. Today, any innocent civilian could be suddenly ripped apart by a concealed bomb or hit by a stray bullet from a sniper or be taken away by the police for interrogation and then tortured to death or get caught in a gang-war of drug cartels or some self proclaimed religious fanatics could kill you just because you belong to a different sect or religious group.

Does this mean, the world is getting more and more chaotic and the words like Destiny or Karma are losing their relevance?

He approach me first. So, i decided to walk in his life without second thought and never ask myself how i feel for him. Because, all i think is maybe he like me. When i notice that later on, he doesnt care about my presence. Now, i wonder if i like him.
oops

This leads me to a bigger question -

Should I live with someone I love or with one who loves me?

But what is your question?

Your talking about one-sided love. Its not gonna work. Both of you, will going to suffer in a relationship.

That's right..guess you have answered your own question.

I feel 'Love at first sight' is a misnomer. Based on my experience, it takes time for the brain to 'love' someone. We can have a lust for someone of the opposite sex or like someone's looks or qualities of either sex within a few minutes of meeting them.

The feeling of lust will crystalize to 'love' over time when keep meeting or communicating with the person whom we lust for. Or else, the 'crush' or infatuation will die down soon.

Love takes sometime to develop and a very long time to subside if at all...causing a lot of mental pain.

Oh yeah definitely..

Natural selection has nothing to do with emotions. It has to do with attributes, mental and physical.

Certain traits that lead to attraction...depending on what each person finds attractive in the other.
Romantic love probably stems from idealism and the perception of finding oneself in another.
But i think the laws of natural selection will always have a tendency to be at odds with human emotions.

"But i think the laws of natural selection will always have a tendency to be at odds with human emotions."

That's gone above my head...can you please explain?

I can't believe in our day and age that there'd be people who seriously consider linking an earthquake to human behavior, as lewd as it can be.

They are still living in 700 AD. Look what's happening in Iraq and Syria...gays are being punished by dropping them down from building tops while others wait and watch with stones to ensure they died.

Now, don't ask me why is it happening even in twenty first century cos I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest.
