My wife decided she doesn't want to be married anymore. I suggested couples counceling, but she said no. She said she's not sure if marriage is for her anymore. So now I'm living alone in our place, and she moved in with her family. So all of a sudden my whole life gets turned upside down.

Real sorry guy. You have some hard decisions to make. If you love her I would try to tell her you respect her decision but will give it a little time to settle in if she changes her mind and wants to work on it.

I have seen people "go home" for all the wrong reasons and find out too late they were leaving "home" and regret it.

Have you rulled out the usual panic responses? Illness, sexual assault, death of a child, parent's in crisis, money problems, feeling like you can't adjust after a move, or the empty nest, just not wanting to be a burden, or carry the burden of an ageing spouse?

Sometimes the elephant in the room just gets to heavy to carry. Not saying you do but you have problems you need to fix? Did she have problems you weren't willing to share? Maybe this is a wake up call? Pretty drastic step not to see coming.

I wish I could say it is a unique problem and only happens to the truely deserving. Lot of people are just doing the ditch committment thing. I am really sorry again. Will keep you in good thoughts and prayers for wisdom and peace.

I am as guilty of this as the next one as I have gotten the wrong end on a couple of dealings with lawyers myself so I am going to take a dose of this myself......

BUT sometimes when people divorce and act likd idiots instead of telling lawyers what they have, what they have done, and are willing to take responsibility for it they (lawyers) are stuck trying to do what we charge them to do which is look out for OUR best interest to He-- with anyone else. Some lawyers actually do a pretty fair job dividing up stuff and looking out for the kids. You can't get blood out of a turnip and face it some of us got ourselves hooked up with some real lulu's. Let pride get the best of us. And just let them do what we could have done for ourselves so it cost a lot more than it needed to.

I can tell you it really bites to be a helping professional sometimes. You really do miss sleep sometimes watching peoples lives disentigrate in front of you. You begin to wonder if anyone is happy any more. You can't get paid enough for that.

I can't tell you the number of attorney's I know that do pro-bono work while still paying off huge loans for law school. A lot of the good ones don't make a living and end up working other jobs just to make ends meet. Rarely the fat kind of money that kind of schooling and stress should demand.

If your lawyer really put it to you I am REALLY sorry and you are the exception. Go to the Bar Association and report them. It really does work sometimes. One deserving shister is disbarred now and his fellow lawyers did it for me. Since the insurance companies would have never given me a dime on my husband's death I am going to stand up for lawyers this paticular time and say Thanks.

Been there, done that.
Sorry to hear it!
If it can't be fixed and you want to avoid the lawyers and hostility and fees-might I suggest a mediator? Thats what I used and it was relatively cheap and very painless.

How slow do you have to move to prevent this? I should have posted it as a topic.
