Lets hear it for those CAPABLE guys outh there that can make or fix just about anything! Thanks :) The handy man is a dying breed, indeed! A number of men and myself had this very conversation at the office, which was started because of a link I sent out (at the bottom of my post) via email. As it turns out, the younger men (30's) tended to believe in having a pro come over and fix "whatever" at the house and to bring their car in to have it serviced. Maybe it's a generational thing. I watched and participated with my dad whenever he fixed stuff - and he had way more money than you could wave a stick out, so he could afford to hire someone. Anyway, I carried the tradition - I can pretty much fix (or add or enhance) anything around the house and I work on all my cars (5) and motorcycle. But for me, it's more about doing the job because I enjoy handyman stuff, not about having to do it to save the money. In my profession, I make things from thoughts, usually within a day of the first thought. This week, even, I redesigned a machine to use a different kind of bearing, to reduce friction and improve tolerances. More amazingly, I baked a cake for a special woman to whom I'm devoted, and got her kids involved in decorating it. We had a wonderful half-day together, except for the part where they left.

I, too, love a guy who can actually do things! But I've learned to do a lot of things myself. When I was able to install a new door knob and lock set I was very proud of myself. And being able to feed cows without someone standing by, well, it is very liberating to know you can do something that needs doing without standing by waiting for someone to help you.

Im your guy when something needs to be fixed.
Most guys my age are just useless at working on stuff. Their fathers failed them, most cant drive a manual much less install a stove. |

 Being a man that is a Jack of trades is good.out..The main thing about the nack for being handy is know your limitations. I saw a dude on TV yesterday that whoops with a nail gun and drove a 16 penny nail clean through his wrist... Can you say "OUCH!!!!" See ya all may your home improvement ventures be safe
