Today I went to an all you can eat Chinese buffet restaurant with my family. I am a slow eater and there was many different kinds of food. I had to get there late because I worked and traffic was bad. My family finished before me so they left me at the table by myself.

This made me wonder if you would leave a family member, friend or a date because they were a slow eater.

Would you do it?

Screw 'em.

I'd keep eating as long as they paid the bill.

I wont leave..it's so unethical. Dont do unto others what you dont want to do unto you. I always keep that in mind, what more to a family, friend or date. Just my point of view. flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

I would stay because I would feel I wanted to stay out of putting a value on that person. JMHO

No, I won't do it! first I think is kind of rude leaving the table while others are still eating...second you were there to meet them and they just leave you like that? I think it wasn't nice of them! but everybody is different and I hope I didn't hurt your feeling JP...is just my opinion. Is too bad they did it to you because you seem like a nice person.

No but I'm a slow eater too. Went to one of those Chinese all you can eat buffets for my brother's birthday actually and the meat was as tough as old boots, as it is with Chinese fast food. I have anxieties about choking and I sometimes have to spit food out when it's too tough or fatty.

What I tend to do when I've got company is just to eat a little and heat the rest up later. Did that the last time that a girlfriend cooked me a meal. A lady friend suggested the other day that we go for a meal at another all you can eat place but the way that it works there, they chuck you out after an hour and a half or something and I'm not really too keen on that because I don't like feeling pressured to eat more quickly, although I suppose that it could be quite a decadent sort of thing to just taste a bit of everything.

I would probably just have a drink if the other person was still eating anyway. Did actually leave my sister's wedding reception early and didn't even stay for the main meal but I was getting bored and I'd had enough of the wine that they were serving. They held it in the middle of nowhere and somebody offered me a lift, so I left. I regret it now but I really can't drink that wine without it making me feel crappy or totally hammered.

Yes I think your on to something with all considered.

JPs story paints a rude picture, she either has a very rude family
but I don't think so or they all had commitments afterwards.

JP
It sounds like you clearly missed the dinner obviously the time
was set to early and wasn't a realistic time for you. I mean were they all ready to leave when you arrived and they said just that?
If that was the case you should have apologized and had you buffet
to go or eat elsewhere to avoid any ill or alkward feelings.
I suppose if its a constant thing with a certain person then
people can get fed up with it, I know I did with the mother of my son. I couldn't handle waiting my life away for someone eles.
There is no way I would leave someone at the table but if a group
of people did that to me I would be inclined to look at myself.
Just appears more to the story to me?Just pure honesty.

If the objective of the evening was eating food the smarter play would be to cook at home, but that's not what eating out is about. It's about the social experience, so it seems a bit contradictory to the purpose of the whole outing to go and leave someone at the table.

Especially weird to order a buffet then treat it like an eating competition where the loser gets left behind. Not the kind of people I'd enjoy an outing with in the first place, it's just not the way I roll.

First thing that comes to mind is: where did they go???
And did they even wait for a while for you to get there or just start regardless at the set time?

We got restaurants like that and everyone stays at the table to drink, socialize, between and after eating, for at least an hour after everyone has finished. Guess it's set up differently over here, there is no where else to go to socialize. The idea is to stay together, have fun, socialize, at the table.

I think it's really rude to leave someone sitting there on their own. Family can be like that, one of the reasons I'm not keen on family things :/
