Do you speak and understand other languages besides English? What languages?

In present days;to know foreign languages is a very useful personal culture

I wish I had learned a second language fluently. I took two years of French in school, but have forgotten most of it, so je ne parle pas bien Francais, but can make out a little when I see or hear it.

Never took the classes in HS.
I have picked up a few words here and there.

I can pretty much figure out written stuff if it uses English style lettering. Like Spanish.

Isn't there a phone app that does realtime translations?

Used to be able to "get along" in three, Russian, Spanish and Thai.
But like anything else, if ya don't use it, ya lose it. I spose I can still order a cold beer and ask directions to the bathroom, which is about all ya need to know in any language.

my mom parents
were from mexcio
so her and her siblings
spoke spanish

my dad didnt allow
me or my sisters to speak it
so we never did

it never made sense
as why my mom married
my dad
they were married 21yrs
and he was pregudist(however you spell it)
against mexcians

my older sisters are learning
it
even my kids and grandkids

i wanted to take spanish
in junior high
but u had to had been
a strenght a student
which sucked

way before my mom retired
she would speak to the customers
in spanish
as at times
there would be a spanish dialog
that she didnt understand

and i remember many moons ago
there was a guy that they thought
he was crazy for they didnt understand
what he was saying.. for it was a different
dialog of spanish
he was admited in the state hospital
untill someone realized it
and he actually turned and sued
the state

my older sister took
french in high school
and taught me a easy word
madmazel ( however you spell that)
which means madam

it would had been great
to had been able to speak spanish
your career would had been in the bag
making $60hour

Wow, No one outside France speaks that impossible language, so you still know enough to get a B here in England !

English is a 2nd language for me. Used to speak Indonesian, and a bit of French but most of both has faded away with time.

Tried to learn German a few years back, but even though my reading and writing was on advanced levels, I can't understand a fecking word of what Germans say when they open their mouths. So I gave up on the course in spite of the wonderful grades.

German is very hard to learn alright, but most Germans are well able to speak English. It is compulsory in schools.
