Growing up in Boston, I learned about racial hatred first in the hospital from some nurses and doctors, later from my relatives and people in general. But it was the overall treatment by the hospital staff towards me, as a mixed race kid, that made it hard for me to condemn all white people, and it was easy to understand that in every race of people there is good and evil! Period.

Hmmm.. We each have a preference, and that's yours, some things said in that context are nothing but racism in my opinion.

In dating/mate selection 'choosing' is a preference based on individual assumptions or general observations of others having similar traits.
The choice or preference doesn't make you a racist. What you do or say based on that choice is what makes you a racist, or not.

I see people as people until 'they' make it about race. My mating preference has nothing to do with it. I choose from my race first but that doesn't mean I believe anyone from other races are inferior, I just have no experience with the other races in intimacy. I also choose from my own class. Not because I believe lower classes or higher classes are inferior but because all my experience is with middle class. I choose what I know and understand.
You choose who you want, it makes no difference to me as long as they don't disrupt my contentment.

If there is a gang of druggies in the local park acting like savages, it makes no difference what race they are - I'm not gunna want to be in the park. I'm not gunna take my kid to that park.

Discrimination is not going to end until EVERYONE stops making a big thing about it. It doesn't matter if yer defending or attacking, as long as it has a focus, it will continue.

We're all people. Everybody breathes, everybody eats, everybody poops, everybody bleeds and yes, EVERYBODY dies.
Yes, even Trump poops.

Having been open to interracial
and multicultural relationships for

It may vary from country to country what shape and form racism takes, and even if it actually IS racism.
Over here I think it mostly has to do with people coming here that do not fit in our culture and often -not always- this is based on religion.
with the refugees we get in the thousands nowadays it's mostly religion and religious behaviour and 'dress code', not race or colour of skin per say.
We do not have another race with whom we build our country like the US. And in a way the Australians and NZers, although this is different again.
We have a modern, Western culture, much of those who now come here basically come from Medieval lifestyle. It takes a long time for that gap to close, not on the outside, on the inside where their lifestyle still is strong.
That has nothing to do with race but may appear so -OR even instigate feelings of racism- as these people are from a different race.
We also have problems with Eastern Europeans, but they blend in much easier. NOT because skin colour, but because their culture is closer to ours.

All things considered I think much of what is regarded as racism by many isn't racism at all. Often it are different issues that cause a problem that in essence have nothing to do with race, but culture and religion.

That makes me wonder how many are in actual fact racists? Over here I think not so many. Although coloured people are creating it more and more by making a fuss of everything -including names of foods!!- that they consider racism that NO ONE ever related to a coloured person.
Think something like "black pudding". Suddenly such things are racist and have to be renamed??

Thanks for input, much appreciated, I always thought the "Zwarte Piet" thing in Holland was a bit fecked up, I don't really know the story behind it, but it has something to do with the devil and punishment? Same as the Black and White mistral show that used to be on in the UK in the 70's, I sometimes wonder who thought of these things.

The Zwarte Piet thing is still going strong. I saw something that was shown in the UK -I believe by Russel Brand, trust him, lol- and what he said and showed is stuff I've never ever seen or heard. Neither has anyone else I know.
It is totally blown out of proportion.
No one ever related it to black people as inferior, as a child I didn't even think of that at all, and that's what everyone says. You looked up to Zwarte Pieten as they had influence and power. They weren't slaves or inferior. Saint Nicolas never really did anything much, logical since he's so old. Kind of like Santa, just sitting there, talking to each child.
It's very much the same as Santa and his elves, just that no one cares about the elves as they're white.
But the whole thing is still going strong, and if coloured people hadn't made a fuss no one today would think of it as possibly racist, but see it just as innocent as Santa and his elves. I doubt anyone ever fussed about them being slaves, hihi.
But yeah... I do understand it appears different looking from the outside in as then you don't know the feeling associated with a certain event.
Like my British ex still got the jitters a bit from the Daleks and was still impressed by the Tardis. I could never relate to that the same way as I've never experienced that as a child.
Dalex scared the crap out of him as a child and he hid behind the settee. I just see golden things on wheels with annoying voices and a loo plunger on 'em, haha.
Looking from the outside in you can't get the same feel of these things as people who grew up with it cos you're not really part of the tradition.
That's part of how I found out a relationship with someone from another culture is difficult. Certain things you can never ever understand from one another, no matter how much you love each other or how much you want to.
