Cliffa notes..pleaselaugh

Dont know much of Scientology, dont care to speculate

I do know Dan Snyder has caused some waves with it though...

No offense but when it comes to religion and spiritual beliefs, what I posted above is pretty much cliff notes version of Scientology. If you want to see long and drawn out explanations actually go to the official Scientology website. Also, if you are the type of person who has the attention span of a piss ant, don't bother studying any form of religion... unless it's a religion where you don't think for yourself, but rather a preacher, pastor, minister or clergyman does it for you and tells you what to think. As I said, no offense meant but the truth is the truth.

Not sure why you are attacking me, if i wanted to qoute you I would have...But I didnt...I wasnt even reffering to your post honestly, as was reffering to this whole thread..So sorry if you took any offense to that...sure wasnt my itention

I'm not attacking... if you wish to see what me attacking looks like read up on the lastest between Lily and I. That's attacking. What I said to you was just plain old truth. Studying religion in general is not something for someone with a short attaention span or for someone who doesn't like to read. It's fact. As I said I meant no offense. And no I didn't realize that you were referring to the whole thread in general.

Go back and edit out the names, their whole little click get's off on reporting post if a name is mentioned....

They will remove the thread and possibly remove you as well if you mentione names

Scientology is not a religion, it is a school of thought, scientologist have no "clergy" that preach, as a matter of fact if they get married they have to go outside of their "religion" to do so.

It is much like Amish or Memonite but with a side of current day to it... like zippers and electricity.

I know people who are scientologist, they are very intelligent and well adjusted people, is it for me...NO, but is it as crazy as they portray on TV with Tom and Katie...NO..but that's Hollywood for ya.

Oh by the way, I lived in Holmes County Ohio (Amish capital of the world) for years. Now I live in Lebanon County, PA very close to the Lancaster County Amish. The Amish and Mennonite ways can not be comparedc to that of Scientology on any level. Amish and Mennonites do indeed have clergymen in a very traditional sense that most think of clergymen. In fact have you ever heard of Pennsylvania Dutch Pow-Wow? It's basically German folk magick that the Amish still practice to this very day, especially in the older order of Amish. That's definately a far cry from how Scientology does things as far as I know. If I'm missing your comparison between Scientology and the Mennonite and Amish please explain it to me further, because personally I don't see the conection.

Hi people,

Please do not attack/insult others for their opinions. Lets please get back to the topic, versus getting at each other.

Thanks,

I don't care how people believe, that's none of my business. I don't care how their religion is run, if the members are fleeced, it's their own fault and a lesson learned (hopefully). What I do have problems with is the practice of kidnapping and attempting to "help" former members. This has happened many times, with many fatalities resulting. The government should create a special taskforce to investigate and prosecute these sorts of things.

read what I said..."clergy" that preach.

and my reference to the memonite and scientologist is that they don't believe in modern medicine, although the Amish and the Memonites now do go to hospitals when necessary, but that was frowned upon for years. Both groups (Amish/Memonite and Scientologist) believe that the man is the head of the household and although vary a bit believe he is the only law in the house. Women in both groups (IN MY OPINION) are treated very subserviently. But to each their own, and it is their way, so I am not going to judge that.

lame

Um, the title of this post was "Scientology: What do you think of it"

My comment was what I thought of it.... not what I thought of you.... why would you assume I was talking to you? That's terrible... I didn't say YOU were lame.
again i am very sorry i just did take it as that. I didn't sign up on this sight to offend any body. I can do that on youtube. I am sorry to everybody else because it seams like i am beeting a dead horse, but i don't like anybody to get the wrong idea of me. I hope you relize that not everyone grows up the same. i grew up thinking that if someone stares at me that was a thret. you might not see it like that but that what life was like for me growing up. my point is that not everybody has the same thoughts and thats ok.

Very honorable of you werewolf_by_night_1.
Misperceptions are easily forgiven when people take responsiblity for them.

And I would respectfully invite EtherealEmbers to acknowledge that having posted the single word "... Lame...", with no other explanation, immediately after werewolf_by_night_1's post, could easily have been misconstruded by him, as a comment directed at his post, or himself, even if that wasn"t the intent.
Misunderstanding yes, but most understandable.

What do you say EtherealEmbers?!?!?

Since you decided to get personal, let me first say that there is no such word as "Misconstruded." Second of all, if you refer back to the first section of this thread, you will see where I went back to explain why I wrote the word "lame." I believe when topics are posted, you don't have to include the original post in your reply. Especially since the comments get posted several people at a time.

Werewolf_by_night_1: Thanks for your apology. I know about taking things personally, I've done it myself and know others that have as well. It's a tough thing to grow out of, but becomes easier as you learn to have greater self esteem. flowerforyou

EtherealEmbers,

I'm glad though, that I didn't commit any typo in spelling the part about '... respectfully invite you...'!!!

And since I was sincere about my invitation, I will refrain from going down the trail of confrontation you have borrowed, and conclude, given your reply, that you have declined my ivitation.

Until our next opportunity to cross-paths, all the best to you.

Scientology is the study of truth. Who could not believe in that? As to the specifics, I do not know enough about it. It seems to be another philosophy. I am grounded in my faith in God and that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Scientology doesn't hurt me, as far as I know. I have read some of L. Ron Hubbards books. They made sense.

Convictions

1999: Greece: Scientologists found guilty
15 Scientologists were accused of systematically keeping files on politicians, journalists, judges, clergymen and other Greek leading personalities. The Scientologists were found guilty, but they were not sentenced, due to procedural errors. (In other words, they got off on a technicality.)
In 1998, a judge ordered the Scientology organization in Athens to stop operating, since the organization was established under false pretenses. According to the ruling, the organization was not operating as a non-profit, and was putting people's mental and physical health at risk.

their philosophy is that it is ok to lie to non-church members and to try and destroy anyone that says anything bad about them using the courts and media.

Stop spreading propoganda... there are azzholes in every formal religion...and informal also, the media feeds on that sh*t....

Worry about you and learn what is real and what is not...think for yourself and stop being a sheep and letting the media lead you by the nose....

Unless you know something first hand...assume it is slanted.

1996: France: Scientology executive found guilty of involuntary homicide
"A former Church of Scientology leader was convicted Friday of involuntary homicide and sentenced to 18 months in prison in the 1988 suicide of a church member. Twelve other defendants facing lesser charges - theft, complicity or abuse of confidence - were given suspended sentences of eight to 15 months each. Charges were dropped against 10 others." The Scientologists were charged in the death of Patrice Vic.

So scientology is bad because a few dumb asses got caught being radical... hhhmmm that must make all catholics bad because a few priest did what they did, and all all methodist and baptist bad because of the Oklahoma city bombing of 95.....

yes, it is propoganda, what someones chosen religion is does not make or not make them anything, who that person chooses to be, and the actions that they decide to take makes them who they are.

My statement of religion... Religion is like a bowl of granola, no matter what kind you get, there is always going to be some fruits and nuts in it.....

Stop spreading hate.... Stop being a sheep that cannot think for themself....open your mind and your heart and see that people are what they are, and no one is above reproach. Good people do bad things all the time, and even bad people can do good things.....

1) Scientology attacks anyone who talks critically about their religion.
2) Scientology doesn't allow people to discuss their policies.
3) Those who have left scientology often of horror storys about kidnapping and brainwashing.
4) Those documents which have been smuggled out of scientology have shown a doctrine of brain washing and the so called "fair game" doctrine, which states that all perceived enemies can be "tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed".

I think it's perfectly alright to talk about the flaws in a religion. Sometimes it seems that a week doesn't go by in which I have to defend Christianity from the "Crusades" and "Inquisition" attacks.

Rabbits points are perfectly valid, scientology is outlawed in several countries and for very good reason.

I see you guys post all the time, you want to argue, I'm not engaging with you until you have enough true amo, until then I will destroy you and it would be like the US taking over Canada....we don't want it, it is of no use to us, so we let it be.... I'm doing the same thing educate yourself to the truth, and again STOP BEING SHEEP.

Oh my! I don't want you to destroy me, but I do have a question...what media outlet has said anything negative about Scientology? The last one to do that was Time and it cost them 6 million in legal fees. Since then, nobody has be brave enough to do it again. I read the websites maintained by past and current scientology members.

Here's a good place to start: http://www.xenu.net/

Oh yeah, please don't destroy me. laugh
