how long do you spend getting to know them before you meet if they're local?

I'm asking specifically about meeting local people, not those you have to travel to see, as I know that will take quite a bit longer.

I think it depends on how you feel about that person. If you click right away or if you are a shy person...alot of things factor in. I think it should be when you feel comfortable enough to meet.

Obviously when you both feel comfortable, but it usually happens within a week or two depending on our schedules.

Yes, I'm aware it needs to be when you're comfortable. What I'm asking is about how long does that take each of you?

Thanks hm, that's the kind of response I was looking for. I'm just curious at how it works for different people.

With me it depends totally on how often we talk via text, e-mail or etc. I can usually tell within 3 or 4 e-mails if it's someone I am interested in meeting. If we click right away then I'll usually see if they want to meet for lunch or something just to see if we click in person.

back in mind 90s before I was married, I was on AOL there were lots of chat rooms for local people, some times we chat and meet the next day... it worked out very good.
it doesnt matter how much time you spend online, meeting in person can change things, for better or worse.

I would say if they're local meet them as soon as you can... this is how lovers did it for 100s of years.

If they are local and wish a date, just like in school as long as its in a public venue, and instead of picking me up they meet me there.....

I don't have a specific time frame. It is when I feel comfortable and even then the first meet is very public (usually where I know a lot of people)

I need at least 2 weeks of getting to know the person ie. talking/ emailing/ texting before I decide if I want to meet them.

i'm not a woman, so i won't wait at all... but i understand why women would want to get to know someone first, to many crazies.

for me it was never a specific timeframe... basically, e-mail enough to see if there is enough interest to talk. Then, talk enough to see if there is interest to meet. Then, meet and talk enough to know if there is interest to meet again....

it was different with different people... some never made it past e-mail, some never past the phone, some never past the meet... some after a few dates...... nature of the beast!

I'm thinking that two weeks sounds pretty good. That gives me enough time to chat/talk/get to know them a bit and decide if I want to meet them. If they're local, I don't want to waste a whole lot of time chatting online, rather than meeting to see if we actually get along. Of course it isn't set in stone.
