Im gonna throw this out there and I fully expect that many just will not get it. I agree, that parents PROTECT And NURTURE their children, but they also need to DISCIPLINE their children. How they discipline their child has alot to do with THEIR family environment and social situation.


It is protective , in many families, to spank a child as opposed to some discipline that will not serve as any type of deterrent.

IN families, for instance, where children are not spoiled with material things and where taking away said things or making them sit (in essence) on their own in a corner or a bedroom are not going to deter them from ANYTHING, spanking is a better and more productive discipline.

IN families, for instance, where their child is more likely to be accosted, assumed a danger by society, arrested and abused by police than they are to be given a 'break' or sent to 'rehab' or seen otherwise as 'innocent' , the reality and harshness of spanking is a much more HONEST preparation for the world they will face than one where things they dont care about happen to be kept from them for a bit.

Consequences are UNPLEASANT, when they are punitive or disciplinary, they are supposed to be.

When families have a balance of communication, love, support, and DISCIPLINE, spanking doesnt involve 'beating them senseless' but doling out a consequence that begins to teach them about the potential harsh consequence of their actions in life and the CONSISTENCY of their household rules and consequences.

IT taught me my parents would do what they said they would do. It deterred me from doing things that could have lead to me growing up to think the world owed me a discussion about everything and I otherwise should have and do whatever pleased me.

IT contributed to an adult who feels not the least bit unloved, invaluable, violent, or unsafe.

It shouldnt be 'ASSUMED' at the mention of spanking, that a child is learning otherwise,,,,its about the BALANCE in the home, not any one element of it,,,,,

I didnt live in the house, I dont know what came before or after that seven minutes of their life. I dont know how often an occurrence it was, so I refrain from judging how old she is as a factor. As to the other, yes, I stated that I Actually was more offended by the verbal abuse, which DID last a majority of the seven minutes, than by the twenty swats she got over a matter of thirty seconds...

I suspect there was INBALANCE in how they brought up that child. OBvious by them arguing in front of her. She most likely showed 'respect' to the parent who let her get her way the most...

or possibly to the one who gave her the healthiest BALANCE of love, support AND Discipline

I can't believe you are defending these actions. You make it sound like it was the girls fault for being a brat so she deserves what she got.

I'm sorry that you got this treatment when you were a child and feel you deserved it..you didn't. So you you don't have to defend it, no one is judging your parents. It's just the way it was..back then!!!

I hurt myself worse all throughout my life when I was just PLAYING than my parents ever did spanking me. They gave me a proper balance of what I needed in life to be a rational, law abiding, respectful, considerate, kind, loving, adult

regardless of who believes it or not,,,LOL

there are no absolutes, spanking is rarely abusive, but sometimes people can get carried away and use the 'belt' dangerously as opposed to using it to connect to the behind,,,,lol
