I looked it up myself,

the laws vary by state (big surprise)

some might consider it abusive and others might not,,

Are you sleeping with this guy because you sure are defending himlaugh

nope, I just dont care for spoiled brats who feel they dont deserve discipline for disrespecting their parents rules,,,

or people who always feel they know how someone else should be raising their children,,,

If she felt she was in danger then it's abuse and someone swearing, yelling and coming at me with a weapon or belt I would fear for my safety.

which rules specifically would define it as abusive?

(other than verbally abusive)

Verbal abuse is mental abuse using a weapon to spank with....the verocity of the hits themselves......am sure she was left with marks or possible bruises....it was assualt and battery plain and simple....I used to work closely with DSCE. I was a domestic violence advocate and counselor, and I worked as a Social Worker....

at none of the state sites did I see 'fear' as a definition for what constitutes abuse

swearing, and yelling, however, can be considered VERBALLY abusive

when I was spanked, you can bet I wasnt fearing for 'safety' as I knew my parents would never allow harm come to me

temporary discomfort or pain was more of what I was 'fearful' of

I commend you. I just dont agree that from this video anyone could know any of those things to be true. Most of it they were not both in focus and the majority of it was his verbal abuse and her crying. The quality wasnt good enough to actually SEE the belt connecting or how hard it connected, or even what it connected with.

The use of the belt itself is abuse in many states

There's a difference between spanking someone and assaulting them , which is what this dude and his ho did. It happened to long ago and if you can believe this child abuse has a statute of limitations which I'm pretty sure will be changing in the future. But regardless how misguided some peoples views are on this one thing is in his future and that's unemployment.

And this is why corporal punishment of children should be stopped........

I just dont understand why you dont believe in corporal punishment of death row inmates but you do of children.

Didnt approve of the language

otherwise, I found she was being quite dramatic for effect and take no issue with the parents spanking her.

Are you serious? The language is what bothered you?

completely serious, if I mute it, just looks like a butt whooping of a child that refused to turn over so the butt could get the brunt it is built to be able to endure,,,

You cannot be serious...but I think this is a fake video????

probability exists.

What was the available camera technolgy 8 years ago. Was it good enough to auto focus through a partialy blocked field of view? There is no shaking. Did they have stablized cameras back then?

I believe inspanking too....with the hand on the behind without marks and those should be the rules for parents that wish to use discipline of spanking......I think its fair to prevent abuse but yet allow a parent to spank if they so choose.......but using a weapon on a child belts shoes fly swatters wooden spoons tree branches etc. Should be outlawed......there has to be a division somewhere.......because when spanking parents get angry and lose their control during a spanking it turns to abusiveness......I don't believe a child should be spanked out of anger but after the parent cools down if they choose to do so and should have guidelines as to what is proper and improper when it comes to spanking

I choose not to spank my son with learning disabilities its not a good method and each child is different......but for my son it doesn't help......loss of tv and friends sometimes.....behavorial chart of earning things works everytime.....maybe if they had marked all the good things she had done towards earning game time and decreased her game time when bad behaviors were evident it probably would have gone over better instead of mentally and physically beating her into it as the father stated......wow......"I will beat you into submission if I have to......" really......how does that work on an animal let's look if you beat an animal from a young baby does it grow up the way you want it to behave or does it turn mean and attack others or turn on you.......If parents who have beaten their children have their children turn on them who is actually to blame?? Take one animal and beat from young take the same type of animal and treat. It well and see the difference I guarantee the animal treated better will act better

thats an option too

we were spanked with the hand, or a belt, or a switch

and not often, cause, we learned quickly

we were givena set of 'choices' at all times where we knew what was unacceptable and what the discipline was for it

choosing the activity was choosing the consequence

a lifelong and consistent lesson we were taught about both choice, and consequence,,,

In this society, you can't even beat your dog. You can't hit old people. You can't hit anyone without being charged with assault and battery.

If you have a dog on a leash and your dog barks and growls at someone as you pass them on the street that is legally classified as an assault.

Why then do people think they can hit their children?

If I was that girl, I would hire a lawyer and charge her father with assault and battery.

Just because a PERSON happens to be your child does not give YOU the right to hit them.

It is assault and battery. Legally.

Or is there a law on the books somewhere that says we can beat and hit our children?

And its not about how other people "raise" their children.

When you hit someone, it is an assault.

A teenage girl is almost an adult. I bet he beats his wife too.

Charge him with assault and battery.

The hypocrisy of this shithead defending himself claiming it was only discipline is a judge who handles child abuse cases. Now the state's judicial conduct commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services are investigating him and he has been relieved of his duties until the investigation is over. The police watched the video after it was brought to their attention and said that a crime had occurred and that charges would have been brought against him if the video was released a few years ago.

Good.

People, you have no right to beat your children. They are just children. For crap sake.

My sister had the three most difficult children I have ever seen. One was hyperactive, the other has hormonal disorders. She never once had to hit any of them and they grew up to be responsible and awesome members of society. She raised them with lots and lots of love and patience.

We all grew up in a generation who spanked their kids. We think its normal and alright to do that. We also never put our children in car seats or made them wear seat belts.

Come out of the dark ages. Stop assaulting your kids.
