I dont believe it happened regularly because I Believe they would have sued for complete custody of the younger child if this was the case. I believe the mother would have been too scared to tell this 'danger' of a man NO (when he requested the belt in the video).

Instead, the younger daughter has continued to be with this 'danger' of a man just like the older daughter chose to do.

Don't have to answer Harmony, but your last post makes me curious...Just what would you consider proof, aside from medical report(s), that the man is guilty of physically abusing his daughter?

Getting involved with your children and beating them are two different things.....

not really, people here only know what they saw on the video, nothing else...did anyone read the daughters take on this? i'm guessing no. it looked bad, but it is no one elses place to decide how a parent disciplines their kids. just because you do not believe in spankings does not equate for everyone else in the world. we are all different, and your values and beliefs may not be your neighbors values. who else is that girl going to learn morals and values from? the school system? TV? other teenagers? you? please tell me where anyone has a right to interfere with their family?

Everything you say is correct up to a point. Not good to assume, but we all do it..When I speak about this video, I use it only as a reference point to express my personal feelings and beliefs. I did not post the thread. My beliefs are that there is a vast difference between spanking on the butt with the palm of your hand and hitting a child with an object, any object...It doesn't matter to me if the the video is contrived, it is the act depicted in the video that I take issue with. IMO, spanking a child beyond formative years is counterproductive. I posted some of the reasons I feel this way earlier..

As far as interfering, if I was in public and saw a child being physically harmed, I would interfere and try to stop further harm to the child. That does not mean I am right or wrong, it just means that is what I would do. I would do it willingly and I would assume all responsibility for the intervention. In other words, I would not give one shite what the parent did to me because I interfered. And I would give less than one shite what onlookers thought of me.

i call it discipline...you call it beating...i guess it would be ok for her to grow up to be a lying, moraless, can't follow simple direction type woman that can never hold down a job so the government will support her and her 5 kids...some kids need discipline, some don't...

Actually Moe i am not against parents discipling their children but to be struck 18 times with a belt at 16 I found to be overly excessive over something like the computer games and music.....I do not believe in spanking with a weapon and I believe that there should be guidlines......if I had seen it happening I also would have intervened but then again this is coming from a person that was dragged by their hair from bed punched hit with belts thrown into walls falling into a heater and leaving permanent scarring.....I still have scars over my body from the beatings....yet i was never taken to the hospital.....social services came to my house and I was threatened that I would never see family members that were special to me again if I said anything......not only did i suffer physical but mental and sexual abuse growing up......I found the video excessive....I did not feel the punishment fit the crime.....my son stole candy from the store I didnt beat him I took him back made him tell what he had done paid for the candy then made him throw it in the garbage and explained to him what happens to people that steal.....but I did not spank him or beat him I took away television time

Morning Jeannie!! Right, they are kids! I just saw a follow up on this story on TV yesterday. The girl is now 23! She was talking about what happened and why she waited to show the vid. She made a lot of sense and came across as being very sincere...Long story short, the reason the judge will not face charges is because the statute of limitations has run out. It has been seven years since the assault was taped......

The fact that she is an adult means that you can't claim "spanking" or "discipline" as an excuse in that case.

At age 24, its time to quit beating your offspring. She is an adult and she could legally have charged him with assault and battery and put him in jail.
